EDF Energy has an exciting new opportunity Technical Analyst at our Barnwood site in Gloucester.

 

You will work as a member of the Asset Management team within the Nuclear Generation Central Technical Organisation which supports the business to deliver a systematic and co-ordinated approach to managing the lifecycle of our nuclear fleet of assets in line with ISO 55001 standards. Joining the team at a critical point of business transition, this is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future direction and secure Asset Integrity.

 

You will be working within an agile matrix team structure in a central technical organisation environment which provides guidance and support to existing operational nuclear plant, you will be using your broad engineering / technical experience to analyse and assess proposed strategies to mitigate technical and business risks.

 

A key responsibility will be to provide assurance through application of Nuclear Generation’s integrated risk and asset planning processes and systems to deliver high quality governance and process arrangements across a large number of cross functional, multi-disciplinary teams at all levels in the organisation. Specifically, providing support to primary leads (who interface to Business Units or specialist areas), through robust analysis and interpretation of technical, financial, operational and performance data to facilitate any necessary actions to optimise Asset Performance.

 

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:


•    Assessing and analysing technical and business risks and mitigation options, utilising multi-facetted and often complex cross divisional data and information to influence strategic decisions that safely maximise the performance and value contribution of the nuclear generation business assets
•    Effective engagement with sharing of best practice and capturing operational experience.
•    Supporting ongoing continuous improvements which successfully deliver value and efficiency.

The Person

 

We are looking for an individual who can perform two vital functions.

 

Integrated Risk Management:

 

To deepen understanding of the inter-relationships between technical, operational and business risks and issues;

Validation of integrated risk assessments;

 

•    Reviewing and challenging the significant risks that may impact business objectives
•    Reviewing potential aggregated impact and connections of risks across the Business.
•    Stress testing key assumptions and risk mitigations strategies
•    Challenging the uncertainties of risk over time to allow prioritisation and decision making
•    Supporting the implementation of enhancements to integrated risk management framework

 

Asset Planning

 

Supporting the existing Fleet Asset Planning process implementation, assisting with the timely production and deployment of specific Business Unit and/or Central medium and long term fleet investment and outage plans;

 

•    Supporting preparation for investment plan development, challenge and governance activities, which exposes and prioritises the key risks and issues and achieves resolution & consensus at the appropriate level.
•    Provision of timely routine and bespoke analysis / insights for leads against multiple business units, through the planning and deployment phases to enable effective challenge of the scope, cost and timing of [risk mitigation] investment work
•    Maintaining capability as “centre of excellence” for existing Investment planning and baseline data, including provision of effective data manipulation tools and associated training
•    Monitoring identified investments as they take shape through the various site and fleet review forums (accountabilities, readiness and sanctioning / decision making forums), flagging issues and concerns.
•    Supporting the governance and oversight of the delivery of in-year investment plans; provision of change control records and providing timely insights into the changes to baselined plans by ascertaining the risks and impacts.
 

The Skills

 

•    Graduate calibre in science technology, engineering, maths,
•    Demonstrable experience of working in cross functional teams and exhibition of strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
•    Specific experience of multi-disciplined technical environments and the challenges of a regulatory framework will be an advantage
•    Must be proficient in analysis and interpretation of technical, financial, operational and performance data from multiple sources, and able to use this to make recommendations regarding risk reduction or value proposition.
•    Able to effectively communicate complex issues and concepts (unique insights) in simple ways, to both technical and non-technical senior audiences.
•    Strong organisational skills will be essential, including the ability to plan monitor and progress across multiple project concurrently
 

Competitive Salary & Benefits

 

The starting salary is from £33,000 & benefits, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.  The starting salary for this appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.  You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency based progression, a career average company pension scheme, access to benefits including gym membership, cinema tickets, technology offers and cycle to work scheme.  Training & Development of our people is a strength of the organisation and key to our future success.
