Mechanical Systems Engineer

Gloucester or Glasgow. Hybrid with a minimum of 2-3 days in the office per week.

The Opportunity…

 

We are looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our Mechanical Systems Branch as part of our Nuclear Services Business, supporting the operation of our existing nuclear fleet.

 

Nuclear Services is our technical centre of excellence, supporting our existing fleet of nuclear power stations and our nuclear new build projects. We're forging the expertise to deliver the UK's nuclear future.

 

The role sits within the Gas, Radwaste and Handling team, which is responsible for the system ownership of gas plant, ensuring best possible reliability and performance are achieved, working closely with station System owners.

 

This is an excellent opportunity to develop in depth knowledge on AGR/PWR design and operation, to work in a fast-paced project and operational environment.

We can offer a competitive salary from £59,662 - £78,541 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. You’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

 What you’ll be doing…

 

  • Managing technical issues to enable the delivery of pragmatic solutions, challenging where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that plant satisfy design requirements to relevant codes and standards.
  • Providing technical support to more junior engineers within the team.
  • Providing technical input into the management of risks and opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including managing interactions with the ONR.
  • Development and maintenance of System Substantiation Summary Documents.
  • Substantiation of the Safety Cases for the systems in our purview.

 

 

Who you are…

 

Your background may include some of the following:

 

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification or experience) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of the principles of Safety Case requirements and how these are discharged through the project life cycle.
  • Knowledge of equipment design and manufacture.
  • Experience of contractual aspects of a project environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Understanding of Nuclear Power Station design; PWR or EPR experience would be an advantage.
