The Opportunity

We’re recruiting for a Compliance Manager to join our large infrastructure project at Sizewell C and help us make a real impact on climate change.

Our expanding Sizewell C Nuclear New Build Legal team work on one of the most exciting projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy.  The Sizewell C Project is a multi-billion pound nuclear new build project in Suffolk which is currently seeking planning approval and financing from HMG and investors, with a view to start construction in 2022.

Sizewell C (SZC) currently operates as part of EDF in the Nuclear Development business unit and is staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors.  It is setting itself up as an organisation capable of delivering a new nuclear power plant, from investment case and funding, to construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and decommissioning.  The capital investment required to construct and commission the plant is ~£20 bn, of which the majority is expected to be debt finance through a combination of bank debt, bond financing and ECA finance.

As Compliance Manager, you’ll develop, manage and maintain the SZC corporate compliance programme and ensure SZC’s compliance with its legal and ethical compliance obligations. You’ll be responsible for developing and communicating SZC’s ethics & compliance policies, monitoring SZC’s compliance with them and providing regular reports on compliance to the SZC Executive team and, where necessary, the Board of Directors and investors.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you can be based anywhere in the UK as long as you’re able to travel to the office 2/3 days a week to collaborate with your team and stakeholders. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

Jo Ryan-Smith, Solicitor says “Pre-COVID I felt my working from home day meant I was viewed as less accessible.  Now everyone is working regularly from home it’s really levelled that playing field; plus having a couple of days where I don’t have to commute and can generally be on hand if we have childcare issues really takes the stress out of family life with two young children”.

The Role and Skills

In this senior role, your work is critical to the success of the business. You’ll develop, influence, support and oversee the delivery of ethics and compliance activities on a best practice basis across the SZC Project. You’ll require strong familiarity with applicable laws and regulations, an understanding of the way in which regulation will be enforced and the ability to influence multiple stakeholders in order to deliver a robust compliance environment.

You’ll have excellent project management and analytical skills, and take a methodical and diligent approach, as well as experience in infrastructure projects and great knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping.

If this all sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you! We have a full job description available and you can request this at application stage.
