Commercial Lead (Transfer & Deconstruction)

What’s the scope of the role?


Your role as T&D Commercial Lead will be responsible for ensuring that for the liabilities agreements EDF Energy has with Her Majesty’s Government (HMG) that the contract responsibilities are managed & delivered, commercial risks are minimised, and opportunities realised, and there is a strong customer relationship. This provides value to the UK taxpayer, and supports EDF Energy’s strategic objectives for compliance to seamless transfer & decommissioning of the AGR stations to Magnox. Internal counterparts will be senior managers and experts, including experienced lawyers (both internal and external counsel). External counterparts include the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) senior officials, Magnox senior officials, and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) senior managers.

What will you be doing?


As Commercial Lead you will work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders ensuring suitable arrangements are in place and managed to ensure a seamless transfer of each station and EDF Energy’s interests are protected.   

The traditional staged methodology from nuclear operations to defueling and decommissioning is the most significant business change the AGR fleet has undertaken in over two decades this makes this a large, complex and sophisticated change management project.

In the coming years a variety of challenges and risks will need to be overcome in the transfer & deconstruction programme in order to:

  • Manage the agreements with HMG covering decommissioning. i.e. ensure compliance with the agreements, demonstrate performance and ensure EDF Energy cost recovery.
  • Work closely with EDF Supply Chain to ensure T&D third party support is contracted to underpin the work required for seamless transfer of sites. 
  • Create underpinned and deliverable plans in support of seamless transfer of sites to Magnox
  • Manage a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Agreeing the arrangements for a seamless transfer of sites to NDA and/or Magnox
  • Seamless transfer of each Station includes any related land, assets, contracts, people, permits, know-how, information, IP, records, IT, management systems, and rights from ENGL to NDA and / or Magnox in order to minimise the risks associated with transfer
  • Working with EDF colleagues and Magnox to explore opportunities to maximise synergies in the transition and transfer period. 


The value of these contracts is approx. £20b spread over 100 years. Expected value is approx. £5B over the next 10 years.

What skills will you need?


You will require a business degree or other equivalent academic qualification and ideally a Chartership of an appropriate institution.  You will have a very high degree of competence, skill and experience to understand and manage these contracts, e.g. legal, commercial, financial and technical.


You will also require high levels of legal and commercial awareness and is required to proactively, and effectively, develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
Forward thinking approach with a focus on value and risk in addition to;

 

  • Exceptional communication skills - ability to communicate and convey complex information simply at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to represent the customer within EDF Energy by communicating and influencing and able to resolve disagreements and disputes in a proactive manner.
  • Contract management experience, with financial acumen.


Desirable
 

  • Experience of defueling and decommissioning in the UK regulatory environment.
  • Proven track record of leadership.
