Vacancy Overview

The role holder is a key technical expert who will be expected to provide crucial IT tool development and improve key systems and pricing processes.  They will also be required to ensure new products and quotations can be managed efficiently and delivered accurately to meet the needs of Industrial and Commercial Sales.

Nature and Scope

The Pricing Development team owns, maintains and develops the IT which supports the Sales and Pricing activities for our Industrial and Commercial customers. Changing our core system is expensive and timely, so having a small team of developers and analysts who create Grey IT (VBA, Excel, Access and Python Models) to leverage system data and to fill more flexible requirements is vital. The existing team is made up of 1 senior developer and 3 analysts/developers providing crucial analytical support to the wider Industrial and Commercial Pricing teams in developing tools, improving key systems and pricing processes and working on development projects.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Support the development of the operational Pricing Teams’ reporting capabilities to ensure accurate measurement of the Pricing teams’ KPIs and SLAs
  • Use programming skills to develop flexible pricing solutions in order to facilitate sales, provide ability for customers to self-serve and to bring innovative products to market. For example, creating ‘Rate Cards’ from system data and building an Excel or Access interface to allow Sales Teams to generate a price for a customer in minutes
  • Maintain, create and deliver IT solutions (using a variety of programming skills including SQL, VBA and Python) to enable effective pricing by operational teams
  • Create and/or redesign the models and processes used to calculate internal costs to ensure these are applied correctly across relevant processes & systems
  • Drive the Trust agenda forward by ensuring that all decisions affecting customers meet the Trust Test, deliver the desired customer outcomes and provide customers with the ability to make informed choices

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Advanced programming skills e.g. VBA, SQL, Python
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets within tools such as Excel and Access
  • Technical ability to understand requirements and challenge the request
  • The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be inquisitive and have a can-do attitude
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • A keenness to challenge the current status quo and look for innovative ways to deliver opportunities
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to document complex issues and processes in a way that can be understood by a wide audience.
  • Strong academic record
  • Knowledge of the UK Energy sector would be advantageous
