The Opportunity

EDF Renewables UK (“EDF RUK”) is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, specialising in wind power and battery storage technology.

We develop, build, operate and maintain wind farms and other renewable technologies throughout their lifetime. The EDF RUK portfolio of nearly 1,000 MW consists of 36 wind farms – including two offshore wind farms – and one of the largest operational battery storage facilities in Europe.

In addition, EDF RUK is seeking to deliver further growth from its own development pipeline or through securing new acquisitions of projects, and has more than 2 GW consented, in planning and development.

As Wind Engineer you will join the Wind Measurement and Analysis Team within our Engineering Competency Centre (CTO) and play a key role in ensuring excellence in the delivery of Wind Measurement and Analysis services in the Engineering Team and wider business to support the rapid growth and diversification across technologies.

Day to day:

  • Contribute to building and strengthening a skilled, high performing, and motivated Wind Measurement and Analysis Team, with an open and positive working environment, and a culture of excellence, collaboration and trust.
  • Translate modelled and measured wind data to input conditions for EYA and Mechanical Loads Assessment.
  • Estimate energy production for wind projects under development and support other teams on site suitability and site development.
  • Undertake / manage the design / optimisation of wind farm layouts and conceptual design.
  • Ensure all assessments, advice and recommendations related to wind measurement and analysis are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring wind measurement and analysis risks are identified, captured, recorded and addressed appropriately, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure risk level is ALARP.
  • Support technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) activities.
  • Review and acceptance of engineering measurement campaigns, studies, contractor designs, drawings, specifications, project plans, method statements, risk assessments, quality plans and other project documentation.
  • Development and definition of wind measurement strategies.
  • Act as a technical interface with third parties on wind resource and performance throughout the project / asset life cycle and ensure optimal use of modelled/virtual data.
  • Challenge and refine technical assumptions in wind and load analysis against best practice, and look for continuous improvement while supporting internal standards/documentation
  • Actively engage in internal teams and committees, and build a strong support network with the wider EDF business.
  • Represent EDF Renewables in external meetings, industry bodies, tradeshows and conventions.

The Skills

We are seeking a proven Engineer successful in delivering projects/programmes, establishing/managing relationships, securing and maintaining a safe environment, managing priorities, and inspiring and influencing behaviours and actions.  You will have a strong commitment to safety, health, environment and quality and as a minimum, have a degree in a relevant engineering, scientific, physics and/or mathematical discipline. Chartered membership of an appropriate body would be an advantage.

We are also seek:

  •  IOSH (or equivalent) is desirable.
  •  Highly proficient in key areas of engineering in the renewables environment.
  •  Experienced in at least one discipline within Wind Measurement and Analysis (Measurements, Data Analysis, Energy Yield Analysis, Layout design, Loads Analysis, etc.).
  •  Knowledge of Python, Matlab or other computational programming skills is desirable.
  •  Experience in Wind Assessment Software (Windographer, Windfarmer, OpenWind, or other fluid dynamics modelling software) and ArcGIS is a plus.
  •  Good command of Microsoft Office package (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc.).
  •  Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas as the role requires.
