EDF Renewables UK (“EDF RUK”) is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, specialising in wind power and battery storage technology. EDF RUK develops, builds, operates and maintains wind farms and other renewable technologies throughout their lifetime. The EDF RUK portfolio of nearly 1,000 MW consists of 36 wind farms – including two offshore wind farms – and one of the largest operational battery storage facilities in Europe. In addition, EDF RUK is seeking to deliver further growth from its own development pipeline or through securing new acquisitions of projects, and has more than 2 GW consented, in planning and development.

 

In line with our growth plans, we are seeking a qualified Solicitor with experienced of Onshore Technologies to join our Legal team based in either Edinburgh or Durham.

 

As a partner and advisor to the business, you’ll embed yourself within our project teams to deliver a proactive and commercially relevant legal service to EDF RUK, including all of its business units and subsidiaries, with a particular focus on delivering onshore wind and solar renewables projects across the UK and Ireland. 

 

Day to day the successful candidate will be an experienced Solicitor who will deliver the following:


•    Provide timely and relevant legal and strategic advice as legal lead to onshore wind or solar projects to support successful project delivery. Anticipate legal/business impacts whilst providing commercially appropriate solutions to complex issues.
•    Draft, negotiate and advise on a range of complex commercial, project development, construction and/or operations contracts and manage a variety of complex legal services which may include IP, insurance, contract management, corporate compliance and others as required.
•    Contribute to the maintenance of key corporate and legal documentation, including precedent legal documents, database and physical signed contracts and EDF Group policies and procedures, manage the engagement of external legal and related services within budget and required timescales, interface between law firms and the commercial teams of EDF RUK.
•    Support the risk management and oversight needs of the EDF Group, ensuring compliance with legal obligations and comprehensive reporting and liaise with in‐house counsel in other EDF Group offices and entities as necessary.

The Skills

 

•    It is essential you are a solicitor qualified to practice Law in Scotland or England and Wales.
•    Possess post-qualification experience in the energy sector and exposure to project development and construction, operation and maintenance and other related energy work.
•    Have experience of drafting and negotiating complex commercial and/or corporate contracts.
•    Be able to work with EDF RUK’s shareholders’ respective legal departments, request their support when necessary and report on activities on a regular basis.
•    Analyse legal issues and provide comprehensive and practical legal advice to all levels of management throughout the company, becoming a valued partner.
•    Possess substantial knowledge and experience in dealing with the laws and regulations of UK jurisdictions, particularly with regard to the energy industry and renewable project development.
•    Be detail oriented and meticulous with efficient communication skills (both written and verbal) supported by strong legal research and drafting skills.
