Head of Offshore Technical Centre

A little exciting intro;

EDF Renewables UK and Ireland is a subsidiary of EDF Group’s, one of the world’s largest low carbon electricity companies, and our investment and innovation is reducing costs for consumers and bringing significant benefits for communities.

With our operating portfolio of 37 renewable energy sites including battery, onshore and offshore wind (together totalling 1 GW) we are providing much needed affordable, low carbon electricity. We have an expanding portfolio with almost 5 GW of projects in planning and development, including wind, battery and solar PV.

The EDF Renewables Offshore Technical Centre (OTC) will provide support for offshore assets across the full lifecycle from origination to decommissioning. The Head of OTC is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the OTC and providing technical leadership and oversight for offshore activities to the wider EDF Renewables business in a context of rapid growth. EDF Renewables has ambitions to develop, construct and operate 3.5GW of offshore wind by 2035.

What’s my role and where will I fit in?

We’re at the beginning of something big!  As of Head of OTC, you will be in a leadership role working closely with the Chief Technical Officer and other heads of function. This new OTC is central to the successful delivery of value and growth in EDF Renewables’ offshore wind portfolio.

The long term vision for the OTC is to create a centre of excellence and central resource hub for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and HSE activities in the delivery of offshore wind projects to support primarily the EDF Renewables UK and Ireland offshore activities, but also the wider EDF Renewables offshore community.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial leader
responsible for building a strong, collaborative and positive working culture among the OTC and with the other business functions.

You will develop and maintain relationships across EDF Renewables in the UK, and the wider EDF Group.

In addition, through the lens of technical excellence and continued improvement there will be a need to to build, develop and own external relationships with offshore supply chain, relevant offshore industry bodies, technical standards organisations, academia/research bodies in order to enhance, promote, and
protect our activity and brand.

What do I need to be great at this role?

You’ll have experience of this (or a very similar role) within offshore in addition to proven, diligent leadership skills coupled with a successful background in delivering projects/programmes, establishing and maintaining relationships and maintaining a safe environment, managing priorities and inspiring and influencing behaviours and actions.

It’s highly desirable that you have a demonstrable proficient technical record within the Renewables sector with an Engineering disciplined background.

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality will be at the forefront of all that you do.

Pay, benefits & culture.

Why EDF Renewables?

At EDF Renewables our purpose is to accelerate a net-zero future where clean energy powers our lives. Our people are passionate about developing the low-carbon energy systems of the future and acting against climate change.

We are an inclusive and diverse business; we recognise that our differences make us stronger and increase our ability to innovate and succeed quickly. We challenge ourselves to continuously improve in order to achieve our purpose, while rewarding work and recognizing the contribution each of our employees makes to achieving our goals.

With our operating portfolio of 37 wind farms and two battery sites (together totaling more than 1GW) we are providing some of the much-needed new, affordable, low-carbon electricity to the UK and Ireland across four technologies (offshore and onshore wind, solar and battery storage), and plan to build five times this over the coming years. Currently we have 700MW in construction.

In England, our battery storage, EV infrastructure, wind farm and solar projects stretch from Northumberland in the north east to the Kent coast in the south.  In Ireland, the Codling Offshore Windfarm will become one of Ireland’s largest offshore wind farms, making it critical to the Irish Government reaching its climate change targets of 70Gof electricity from renewable sources by 2030.  Scotland is home to Dorenell, EDF’s largest onshore wind farm in Europe. Work on the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm project in the Firth of Forth is well under way and includes a new operations and maintenance base at Eyemouth Harbour.

The success of our mission and purpose is underpinned by our core values – our DNA:
Together: Working together.
Open: We are open and authentic in our behaviours.
Passion: We have a strong belief in what we are doing.
Growth: Growth as a company and as individuals.
Resolve: We remain determined even in challenging environments.
