Operate Technician



Would you like to join our team of Operate Technician’s and fast become be a valued member of the Torness Power Station?


In this role you’ll ensure the daily operations of the Station run smoothly and offer the best performance possible andl be responsible for the safe and reliable operations of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies and industry best practices. 

You will receive full training to be part of the stations Emergency Scheme should any emergency occur.

Pay, Benefits and Culture
We’re offering a salary of £34,327 - £43,622 apply with our terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences and qualification. 

As you’ll be working Shifts as an Operate Technician, the role also brings an attractive Shift Allowance starting from a minimum of £10,633 per annum. Any addition voluntary hours are paid at a premium overtime rate.

What you’ll be doing


Our Op Techs carry out the following tasks to ensure the safe and reliable operation of Plant: 


  • Monitoring plant condition, identifying & resolving sub-standard condition through work requests, performing minor tool pouch maintenance and reporting civil defects through the helpdesk processes
  • Responding to requests from the control room to investigate plant alarms and perform required operations
  • Controlling and closely monitoring plant and equipment to support the process by following procedures
  • Applying conservative decision-making techniques and work effectively within a team environment
  • Showing a solid understanding of plant operation, design and theory (comprehensive training will be provided)
  • Investigating and rectify plant faults within your own area of demonstrated competence
  • Carrying out minor maintenance and health physics monitoring as required by the process


Who you are


As the next Operate Technician, you’ll hold the following skills and experiences to be suitable for the role:

  • An inquisitive mindset – questioning activities, environments to ensure they are safe and as per the specifications
  • Teamwork - Able to work as part of a small team with positivity, flexibility and commitment to the wider team
  • Previous experience working in a heavy process environment in Operations or Engineering role with supporting qualifications.
  • Good level of computer literacy i.e. able to use Word, Excel and bespoke systems.
  • Focused on safety -ability to follow written process instructions and complete paperwork accurately
  • As a minimum, entrants will be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent).
