Nuclear Site IT Services Team Leader

The Opportunity


Are you a great IT support engineer?  Do you have experience leading teams or are ready to step into IT leadership?


Reporting to the Nuclear Site IT Services Manager, the Site IT team leader will lead the Torness Site IT Services team of 2 IT specialists and have responsibility for all 2nd line IT support on site, local IT project delivery and ensuring the safe and compliant delivery of IT services to the station.


The team Leader will work alongside with 6 other station team leaders and teams to leverage best practice and continual learning in the best ways to support our IT for our colleagues across the nuclear fleet.

The Role

Alongside reporting to the Nuclear Site IT Services manager, managing 2 IT Specialists across the power station you will also carry out the following duties:



  • Be an important part of the wider EDF IT organisation
  • Oversee all areas of IT support and service delivery at Torness including desktop support, service fulfilment, as well as local and central IT and business projects
  • Responsible for the maintenance of station-based IT infrastructure in conjunction with centrally based resolving teams and hardware maintainers (Cisco network environment & HP Wintel and NetApp server and storage)
  • Monitor, and challenge where necessary, the quality and consistency of IT services delivered to Nuclear Generation
  • Able to offer advice and guidance on, and ensure compliance with, Information Security policies, procedures and standards.
  • Have Field Supervisor (Health & Safety) responsibility for IT contractors on the power station

The Skills


To be successful in your application you will have the follow skills and experience in order for you to successfully hit the ground running:


  • Experience in IT service delivery and 1st and 2nd  line operational support
  • Experience of working and supporting IT services within the ITIL service management framework or equivalent
  • Be a team leader or manager with demonstrable experience leading people and process (we may consider candidates who have been developing into a leadership role and show the confidence and capabilities to lead in a challenging environment)
  • Be able to demonstrate stakeholder management experience with multiple colleagues and support partners up to executive level
  • Experience of working with Windows 10 and Windows server environment including Active Directory.  The candidate should also have a good understanding of LAN infrastructure and topologies, and installation and support of peripheral devices.
  • Must have excellent customer facing skills, be dynamic, have high standards and integrity and be a good communicator.
  • A qualification or certification in any of the following while not essential, would be highly beneficial: Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Prince 2, ITIL v3/v4.

Along with the above, we also do require you to have the following requirements for this post:


  • Live within approximately 1 hour drive or 30 miles of the station (flexibility can be discussed)
  • Hold a minimum of a relevant HNC in Computing, Engineering or Science (or equivalent academic qualification)
  • Be able to achieve UK Government security vetting to SC (Security Cleared) standard

Competitive Salary & Benefits



The salary range is between £47,764 - £63,319, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.  The starting salary for this appointment will be dependent of your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.  You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency-based progression and a Company pension scheme.
