Vacancy Overview

 

To provide energy market risk reporting and analysis in order to support and control the activities of the commercial business teams.

We have an exciting opportunity for a senior analyst in the Energy Market Risk team within the Wholesale Markets Optimisation (WMO) department. The team produces reporting and analysis to support and control the activities of the trading team optimising our multi-million pound hedging activity.

With the role encompassing activities across Customers and Generation, the Senior Analyst will also have the chance to work a variety of stimulating projects from innovative new customer offerings to cutting edge energy management technologies that will drive the future of the energy industry.

Principal Accountabilities

 

  • Develop and maintain a high standard of risk reporting that provides the business with reliable, accurate and insightful risk analysis.
  • Provide robust challenge to commercial teams to ensure compliance with approved strategies.
  • Complete analysis related to emergent risks, hedging strategies and products to ensure appropriate management of risk.
  • Identify breaches and incidents relating to the risk control framework and contribute to their resolution through investigation and reporting.
  • Direct the day to day workflow of analysts, mentoring them as necessary, to achieve the team deliverables.
  • Build excellent relationships with stakeholders to improve risk reporting and analysis

Nature and Scope

 

  • The purpose of the Energy Market & Credit Risk (EM&CR) team is to continually improve the energy market and credit risk control framework and provide clear, accurate and insightful risk reporting and analysis capabilities in order to:
    • remain compliant with policies
    • support and challenge the business in order to embed energy market and credit risk
  • considerations into decision-making across EDF Energy
  • The Market Risk Senior Analyst reports to the Senior Manager of Market Risk who in turn reports to the Head of EM&CR.
  • The role holder is responsible for ensuring reporting is delivered in an accurate and timely manner. The Senior Analyst is also responsible for identifying and making recommendations to improve the efficiency of reporting and the provision of insightful market risk reporting.
  • The role holder is expected to have extensive daily interaction with commercial teams in EDF Energy and, on a monthly basis, with risk controllers in EDF Group. Consequently the Senior Analyst must have very good stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence and focus on identifying key requirements.
  • The role holder is responsible for analysing market risks and making recommendations to commercial teams to improve business proposals from an energy market risk management perspective. This requires a very good understanding of energy market risks and their management including a strong understanding of underlying theory and risk measurement techniques.
  • The role holder will also support the incident and compliance governance processes.
  • The role holder will be required to be resilient to an environment characterised by significant operational activity and business change.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

 

Qualifications and experience

 

  • A good degree in a numerical/scientific subject.
  • A very good understanding of the trading risk management and markets is required with energy experience highly desirable
  • Commercial acumen

 

Technical and commercial knowledge and skills

 

  • Highly analytical and numerical; comfortable discussing technical subject matter
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and, preferably, programming skills, e.g. including VBA and Python.
  • Focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • A strong commitment to developing an in-depth knowledge of energy markets and associated trading risk management systems and methodologies
  • Very good stakeholder management, including influencing, negotiation and consulting
  • Able to challenge accepted ways and consider options to improve business proposals
