Vacancy Overview

 

The Deal Structuring Senior Analyst (Solutions) has the lead role in facilitating the tendering, structuring, negotiation and execution of high value contracts for EDF Energy’s Energy Solutions prospects.  The role is required to manage internal governance and policies (including liaison with relevant internal and external stakeholders) , in relation to contracting activity and conducting ongoing contract management services post-sale.

It is the responsibility of the Deal Structuring team to oversee the commercial implementation of new opportunities and to preserve and improve the commercial return on the committed portfolio. Whilst reporting into the Deal Structuring Manager, the Deal Structuring Senior Analyst (Solutions) will work primarily on the execution of Energy Solutions opportunities, liaising closely with the Energy Solutions team, including Sales, Business Development and EDF Energy’s Blue Lab innovation team.

The Customers business has an annual turnover of c£6.3bn with an Operating expenditure of c£584m, Capex investment of c£56m, Gross margin of c£698m and EBITDA of c£72m. Customers operates with c.6,000 employees, partners with a range of Trade Unions and is located across multiple UK locations. The employee mix includes contact centre, sales, product development, marketing and commercial. Outsourcing arrangements in the UK and overseas form part of the operating capability and capacity. Customers serves over 200,000 business customers and is the largest supplier of electricity to business customers in Britain. The job holder is fully empowered to make commercial decisions, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, and to make other decisions in accordance with the Customers FAL/DAL matrix. They will be expected to engage with senior stakeholders, escalating where necessary and presenting clear and concise information.

The Deal Structuring Senior Analyst (Solutions) is a subject matter expert in commercial contract management and commercial dispute resolution. The job holder will support the Deal Structuring Manager and the Energy Solutions team in providing industry leading commercial tender submissions and contract structures. The role holder will manage interfaces across I&C, Risk, Legal and Wholesale Market Optimisation. The role holder will also support the transition of secured contracts into the various operational teams required to deliver ongoing support.

The role holder will support the Deal Structuring Manager in working with Energy Solutions to capture all sales priorities, provide guidance on sales qualification, share best practices, and document approaches. The role holder will comply with all internal and external policies and procedures.

The role holder will work across selected opportunities in the Energy Solutions space, however it is envisaged that the role will evolve over time to include the structuring of opportunities with an increased focus on export and distributed generation, as well as integration with EDF Energy’s import supply customer base.

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

  • To act as the commercial lead on identified opportunities, defining EDF Energy’s structured solutions both internally and externally.
  • Qualify and understand customer requirements, manage the tendering and contract negotiation process for high value deals to ensure successful delivery in line with strategy and the Energy Solutions MTP.
  • To produce high quality, compelling and compliant tender responses which meet customer needs and sell EDF Energy capabilities.
  • Specify the complex analysis required to evaluate the risk/reward profile of any structured contract for both EDF Energy and the customer, as well as ensuring that any risks to EDF Energy are identified and mitigated.
  • Work closely with the Customers Legal function to manage the review of third party terms and conditions, as well as to structure bespoke contracts.
  • Lead on the delivery of commercial negotiations and implementation of long term commercial arrangements, to deliver maximum margin.
  • Communicate effectively and accuratrely with all relevant stakeholders, such that all parties understand the terms of the deal, including the contract financials.
  • Assess any inherent risks and make recommendations to management based on thorough analysis.
  • Produce high quality, clear, concise and compelling papers and presentations for EDF Energy stakeholders and customers. This often includes Executive level engagement.
  • Provide assistance, support and guidance on all commercial issues within a project or deal.
  • Ensure the sub-contracting process is robust and correctly administered to protect the company.
  • Ensure full compliance with company commercial procedures and corporate governance requirements.
  • Coaching/Mentoring of Deal Structuring Analysts and/or graduate placements within the team, including supporting the exchange of best practice from the Energy Solutions into the wider I&C Commercial team.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Strong academic record
  • Solid industry experience; an energy efficiency or construction sector focus advantageous and any energy industry market experience also beneficial.
  • Experience of construction industry standard contracting formats (JCT, NEC3) and industry EnPC frameworks (CEF, REFIT) also desirable.
