The UK European Pressurised-water Reactor (EPR) Design Centre further develops EDF’s nuclear expertise in Britain with a centre where leading companies can come together with EDF to support Hinkley Point C (HPC) and other UK EPR projects in their design, build and commissioning. Led by EDF’s new nuclear engineering division (DIPNN UK) and Edvance UK, the Centre is based in Aztec West, Bristol. Around 700 people from different companies will be employed there by 2021, bringing an additional 300 jobs to Britain to support HPC and Sizewell C’s (SZC) design, construction and commissioning. 

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Building Pilot to join DIPNN UK – the UK establishment of EDF France in charge of the Conventional Island (CI) design for UK EPR projects. Split between offices in Tours, France and Bristol, DIPNN UK is responsible for engineering support to HPC CI construction and commissioning activities, as well as design activity for SZC.

The Role


As the Building Pilot, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall design of structures, systems and components for the CI, Balance of Plant and Heat Sink on the Sizewell C project. You will work closely with teams in the UK and France to assess the design, build and commissioning of HPC and ensure the delivery of engineeing and replication activities at SZC.

You will be accountable for the following:

•    Ensuring delivery of engineering activities and replication assessments (Civil Work, Layout, Equipment, System, Electrical, Nuclear Safety)
•    Overall product delivery and integration (buildings and all associated systems, contracts, components)
•    Coordinate a multidisciplinary team of design engineers
•    Ensuring design solutions comply with life-cycle requirements from initial design through procurement, construction, commissioning, to final acceptance of the product 
•    Ensuring that key requirements are defined, documented and implemented 
•    Resolution of technical topics and open points associated with the scope of the product
•    Coordination and integration of design activities related to Heat Sink buildings (Pumping Station, Outfall Building, Pre-Filtering Building, Chlorination Building, etc)
•    Management of technical and schedule interfaces both internally and externally

The Skills


To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

•    Degree in an engineering, technical or scientific subject
•    Significant project management and technical delivery experience
•    Experience of technical integration 
•    Experience of coordinating teams in complex environments 
•    Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
•    Good leadership, negotiation and communication skills 
•    Ability to set, achieve and maintain high standards of safety and quality



•    Project Management qualification
•    Management experience in nuclear engineering/ nuclear new build projects
•    Knowledge of EPR engineering process
