The Opportunity

EDF and Framatome have come together to establish the joint venture Edvance, an EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) company established in 2018 in charge of the design and realisation of nuclear islands for new projects around the world. As the leading business of the French nuclear industry, it aims through its objectives and challenges of economic competitiveness and performance, to position itself sustainably in nuclear markets internationally and those of the renewal of the French fleet. 


Edvance UK is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI (Nuclear Island) buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C project.


We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Lead specialising in Effluent Treatment Systems to join Edvance and take account of the specification of the system design and its integration into the overall plant of the assigned systems. 

The Role

 

You will support the scheduling and preparation of activities as well as supervising, checking and supporting both system and instrumentation and control engineers in all aspects of system design. 


You will have the following accountabilities:


•    Perform engineering analysis and supporting calculations for waste systems, in order to produce the system documentation required for the HPC project
•    Design and modification of the effluent waste systems, including thermal-hydraulic calculations and safety features 
•    Preparation of system design manuals 
•    Application of UK specific legislation and best practice in the field of Nuclear Effluents treatment systems design
•    Oversight of modifications to systems, potential challenges and key milestones 
•    Preparation of documents for systems operations (Periodic test) and Control & Instrumentation (C&I) 
•    Management of the supplier feedback from contracts team impacting the design of the systems
•    Technical checking of documents such as deliverables and engineering change notes ensuring quality 
•    Driving continuous improvement through effective reporting and lessons learned 

The Skills

 

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:


•    Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
•    Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics 
•    Knowledge of the rules, codes, standards and tools specific to nuclear systems design
•    EPR knowledge (design, operation and safety rules) 
•    Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control (I&C) design 
•    Technically credible with excellent negotiation and communication skills to aid the pragmatic solution across multiple stakeholders of interface and coordination issues raised 
•    Pragmatic solution focused approach to coordination of issues 
•    Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
•    Ability to productively coach and support others with the team

 

Desirable:


•    Working level of French 
•    Minimum 5 years of experience in Effluents treatment/Waste systems design for nuclear sites 
•    Chartered Engineer or willingness to obtain chartership
