The Opportunity


The main objective is to lead the oversight and internal regulation of the entities involved with the HPC supply chain, principally from within the HPC Project organisation, key supply chain partners and the Responsible Designer. In so doing, provide assurance that the equipment is manufactured to the required quality, and that supply chain management arrangements are fit for purpose and being implemented. This is through a strategic approach leading to the definition of and the  execution of a risk-informed assessment plan; assessing across the breadth of the supply chain and associated arrangements and providing meaningful insights and advice to the Project, identifying risks and opportunities.  


The role:

  • Management of a small team, providing direct management of Supply Chain Inspection activities, reporting to the Head of INA
  • Independent assessment of the Project Supply Chain management arrangements against international standards and wider good practice
  • Independent inspection of the application of the management arrangements within the wider supply chain
  • Independent assessment of the organisations devising and implementing supply chain management arrangements

The Person


The Supply Chain Inspection Manager will be a highly experienced and qualified engineer with experience of nuclear safety fundamentals and their application in the nuclear industry, including an understanding of safety cases, nuclear safety principles, quality requirements, surveillance and Regulatory interactions. Experience of commercial arrangements would be beneficial but not essential. 


You will be able to lead and direct a team. You will have strong interpersonal skills and be able to engage credibly within and externally to the project, looking to influence and encourages changes in behaviour or approach. You will be a credible decision maker allowing you to prioritise on key issues and provide clear insights and advice. 


You will be a problem solver who can manage apparently conflicting roles of independent review and challenging the project whilst also finding pragmatic solutions to issues which arise during supply chain inspections and assessments. 

The Skills



  • Degree qualified and ideally a Chartered engineer
  • Demonstrable understanding of the following: -
    • Nuclear Safety Principles
    • Nuclear safety culture
    • Application of quality management systems to the delivery of construction and manufacturing
  • Project experience highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of quality arrangements required in UK nuclear regulated environment.
  • Ability to influence and encourage change of behaviours or approach across a diverse range of senior leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage credibly, within and external to the business.
  • Extensive experience within the UK regulatory environment.
  • Extensive experience of regulatory and external stakeholder engagement.



  • Experience of working within an independent oversight capacity.
  • Experience of assimilating the outputs from a range of reviews and assessments to provide insights and themes, and escalating any issues as appropriate
  • Experience of developing and implementing successful Assurance programmes within a complex business model and across a diverse set of activities.
