Vacancy Overview

The Legal function is a strategic function critical to developing and managing the business.  It forms part of the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Directorate which is one of the corporate functions within EDF Energy, based in Bristol with travel to other EDF Energy premises within the UK which will be required on a regular basis as required by the business.  Travel within Europe will be required from time to time.


Nature and Scope

To assist the Head of Legal to provide a pro-active, preventive and commercially relevant legal service to the HPC and Nuclear Development business units.

Principal Accountabilities

·     To provide a timely, preventative and commercially relevant legal advice to the business unit on health, safety and environmental matters, property matters, management of JV arrangements, key contracts, other arrangements with Government and shareholders and general advice on HPC and other nuclear development projects.

·     To review, draft and participate in the negotiation of contracts, leading the negotiation process where appropriate.

·     To develop and deliver training courses appropriate for the business and for other solicitors as required.

·     To undertake research, as directed, on future legislative changes that may impact the business.

  • Successful management of legal issues including advising on regulatory management arrangements and issues for the HPC and other Nuclear Development Projects.
  • Close cooperation with Project and legal teams

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales.
  • Relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor.
  • Experience of delivering a pro-active business focused service that anticipates risks and prevents problems.
  • Demonstrates solid, well rounded legal knowledge and experience preferably (though not necessarily) in the projects sector.
  • Demonstrates commercial awareness.
  • Able to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to a range of audiences both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to establish credibility within the NNB Project.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and work on several projects concurrently.
  • Flexible approach with a willingness to develop knowledge and skills in different areas of law and provide support to other teams, as required.
  • Organised and methodical approach.
  • Able to use MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint to an intermediate level.
  • Confident communicator, able to present information to a range of audiences.
