SZC Open Point Lead

Edvance is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, an EPCC established in 2018 in charge of the design (basic design) and the realization (studies, procurement, erection, testing and commissioning) of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide. 

In particular, Edvance is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for the Hinkley Point C project and prepare the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project. 

For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and the UK. The SZC project is managed by a project team, partly located in France and in the UK. The strategy for SZC is for most of the scope of NI design replication activities to be lead and managed in the UK from the Edvance UK Bristol office.

SZC Project Technical Directorate (TD) role is to maintain and exert the technical authority of the project. To demonstrate full control of the SZC Nuclear Island (NI) technical integration, the TD set up the replication strategy on the NI scope, ensure the technical integration of the contributions from all disciplines, coordinate the project delegates within technical department, implement and deliver the overall engineering process.

Within TD, the Configuration Management team oversees the overall configuration management for the SZC design during the preparation of the offer and then during the execution of the project, supporting the roll out of the replication strategy. The key mission of the team is to manage and ensure appropriate maturity of design and replication of the HPC design for all aspects.


Within Configuration management team, we are looking to recruit an Open Point lead who will oversee the management of the SZC technical issues that may have an impact on the NI design. They will be responsible for leading the resolution of complex multidisciplinary issues and overseeing the resolution of all other issues which are managed within the various technical disciplines.  


The Role 


The key duties and responsibilities of the Open Point Lead are as follows:

•    Coordinate and ensure the integration of the contributions to the resolution, in a timely manner, of Design Open Points (technical design issues likely to generate design changes) on NI scope through steering of associated design open point process, organisation of periodic reviews of open points with each technical department and organization of the Design Open Point Coordination Meeting,
•    Ensure the Open Point process is correctly applied when an Open Point has been raised and advise on the process,
•    Manage the database, on NI scope, of the tool used to monitor the Open Points, with a strong interaction with Plant Integration Services and the development team when required,
•    Monitor and report on the design Open Point key performance indicators and proactively takes actions to improve performance,
•    Support the update of the internal Open Point processes owned by Plant Integration Services,
•    Ensure communication between different entities and escalate any issues when necessary to the SZC NI Technical Director and his/her Deputy.


The Skills 


Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

•    Engineering degree or equivalent
•    Proved knowledge and experience in design processes across multiple engineering disciplines 
•    Technically credible with excellent negotiation and communication skills
•    Experience of working in large teams and complex environments
•    Pragmatic solution focused approach towards resolving technical issues
•    Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
•    Ability to set, achieve and maintain high standards of safety and quality

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


•    Knowledge and experience of the EPR design
•    Knowledge and experience  in nuclear reactor design 
•    Management experience
•    Ability to communicate in French
