Process Architecture Lead

The Process Architecture Lead operates across the buisness and is accountable to the director of each function for monitoring and communicating progress against the pipeline of work. The Process Architecture Lead, and their extended team, works autonomously on all activity relating to relevant process and procedure develoment, only escalating to the Business Architecture Delivery Manager when decisions are required at executive level or at a cross portfolio level.

You will be interfacing with business stakeholders at all levels, and needs to be able to indirectly influence resources within the business to support and commit time during process and procedure develoment. A related additional challenge is the ability to facilitate collaboration and understanding between departments who may not see the need to collaborate.

Nature and Scope

Nuclear New Build is a dynamic, complex infrastructure project in a highly regulated, high hazard industry meaning the process steps and interfaces between departments are multiple and complex.   The organisation model, processes and procedures, and interfaces between departments are continuously evolving as the HPC Project establishes new capabilities or reconfigures existing capabilities to reflect the project phase. The Process Architecture Lead must stay aware of these changes and adapt the pipeline of work, resources and timetable as necessary to meet these demands.

Principal Accountabilities


  • Acts as a trusted advisor to the Senior Management team of the business function in identifying and prioritising the pipeline of processes and procedure development projects that will be required to optimise the current and future business operating model and enable the function to achieve their goals.
  • Develop relationships with the Senior Management team that enables new or changed processes and procedures to be captured early and which facilitate speedy resolution of issues and barriers to delivery.
  • Develop process architecture materials and standards which support good or best practice and maximises productivity and the use of modelling tools and the IMS.
  • Manage the team’s outputs ensuring they are delivered efficiently, provide value to the business, are delivered in line with time and cost targets and are of the required quality.
  • Develops an extended team with capability to support the pipeline of work, sharing and optimising the use of resources as needed.
  • Coach and develop a team of process architects to develop and improve performance in pursuit of their career goals.
  • Development and continuous improvement of team’s methods, tools and techniques in line with industry best practice


  • Managing an external service of 3-6 process architects
  • Direction and oversight of third-party architecture and delivery resources
  • Oversight of all process architecture solutioning across an 8-year portfolio of 20+ IT projects with a value of approx. £10m

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Extensive experience of scoping and delivering effective process architecture projects in complex capital projects with high levels of interdependency and information flows between the clients’ business functions and with the contract partners delivering the work;
  • Experience of delivering across all types of architecture projects i.e. process development, data and information management, IT system specification and selection;
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with senior level stakeholders, up to and including director level;
  • Strong workshop facilitation and interview skills, including negotiation, influence, mediation and conflict management skills;
  • Relevant qualifications and experience in process management

Qualifications & Experience


  • Degree level or equivalent in a related subject or business relevant subject
  • Experience of managing people in a technology environment
  • Track record of project or programme delivery


  • Professional education and/or qualification in Project Management
  • Professional education and/or qualification in Architecture or Business Analysis
  • Significant working experience in Nuclear, asset Intensive and/or Safety Critical industries
