Nuclear Safety Manager

Aztec West, Bristol - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract.

If so, join us as a Nuclear Safety Manager and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

 

The Opportunity...

 

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) established in 2023, is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. Therefore, a Technical Directorate is being created, responsible for the engineering disciplines and technical expertise required to deliver the different engineering projects through integrated teams in EPR-E.

 

For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.

 

As a Nuclear Safety Manager at Sizewell C, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless coordination of activities of our Safety Team, guaranteeing the timely and accurate delivery of safety activities in alignment with our contractual requirements.

What you’ll be doing…

 

  • Overseeing the operational management of the Safety Team, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of safety activities according to client contracts, adhering to strict quality standards.
  • Facilitating the replication of safety studies from one project to another, ensuring consistency and efficiency in processes.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive schedule for safety activities that aligns with project needs and resource availability, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
  • Analysing and addressing design changes, ensuring that technical issues are identified and resolved by leveraging the expertise within the safety team.
  • Managing stakeholder interfaces across Responsible Designer and Client organisations, particularly focusing on securing replication justification activities.
  • Providing oversight for the formal review of technical deliverables produced by the Safety Team, ensuring quality and accuracy before approval.
  • Generating comprehensive reports on Safety Team progress for various project forums, addressing any discrepancies in hours or costs as necessary.

Who you are…

 

Your background may include some of the following:

  • Degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of Nuclear Safety, particularly in EPR or PWR designs.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant position, preferably within a highly regulated industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined, capable of meeting deadlines and prioritising tasks across multiple workstreams.
  • Proficient in reviewing technical documents containing complex arguments.
  • Proactive approach to managing and resolving technical topics.
