The Opportunity

EDF’s Engineering Directorate’s main role is to project manage the delivery of design on behalf of the Programmes and ensure the overall integration of engineering activities throughout the Hinkley Point C Project: managing the configuration, the interface process, technical OPEX, the engineering methods and tools. 


Within the Engineering Directorate is the Nuclear New Build (NNB) Design Delivery Branch (DDB), committed to the delivery of design studies for the UK European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) project, in preparation for construction works. The scope of work covers UK specific structures, buildings and systems for the site buildings, as well as services within these buildings. 


The NNB DDB Site Buildings Team is leading the building design of Ancillary Buildings across Hinkley Point C, including the Operational Service Centre, Auxiliary Boiler Facility, Severe Accident Emergency Response Facilities, Security Facilities, Waste Stores, Training Centres, Public Information Centre and Warehouses.


We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Building Lead to join the Site Buildings Team on a permanent basis.

The Role

 

Reporting to the Site Buildings Manager, you will take responsibility for the co-ordination and delivery of the scope, as well as acting as an intelligent customer to review the design against scope documentation. 


Specifically, you will be accountable for:


•    Preparing technical specifications for the consultants and contractors developing the design of the building
•    Contributing to the bidders’ technical assessment
•    Surveillance of subcontracted design activities
•    Liaising with stakeholders involved in the specification, procurement, design, construction, use, maintenance and decommissioning
•    Supporting and manage design reviews as part of the staged delivery
•    Analysing and resolving any technical design issues presented by consultants and contractors, challenge their proposals
•    Managing technical interfaces with other teams
•    Managing the changes and non-conformances occurring during the design
•    Managing potential deviations with respect to requirements from stakeholders
•    Applying QA processes, procedures and tools to manage the design activities

The Skills

 

You will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:


•    Degree qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering/Building Services discipline.
•    Experience in the design of mechanical building services systems from concept to commissioning and hand over
•    Experience in design management and coordination of building projects
•    Solid Technical knowledge of building design and construction
•    Experience of working to RIBA plan of work and BSRIA
•    Experienced in buildings standards, CIBSE and engineering procedures in the UK
•    Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented
•    Acknowledged organisational skills
•    Excellent communication/interpersonal skills/team working
•    Ability to work independently and be proactive
•    Discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information

 

Desirable:


•    Chartered engineer 
•    Experience in nuclear industry
•    Awareness of RCC-M and RCC-E codes
