The Opportunity

Are you looking for a legal career which is rewarding and where you can really make a difference? Come and join the growing Legal team on our Hinkley Point C project, one of the most exciting, unique construction projects in the UK, and be a part of the UK’s climate change agenda.

As a Legal Counsel within our Nuclear Development Legal team, you’ll play an important and strategic role in the success of our nuclear new build projects. These programmes provide a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to work alongside industry-leading experts and make a tangible impact in helping Britain achieve Net Zero, as you help deliver the first in a generation of new nuclear power stations.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you don’t have to live in the South West of England. As long as you’re able to travel to the office 2/3 days a week to collaborate with your team and stakeholders and see the project’s progression for yourself, you can be based anywhere in the UK.

We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively. Sam Wilkinson, Solicitor says “There is a lot of trust and flexibility in the team. I have 2 young children and the team have been really lovely in supporting me when those unexpected parental duties kick-in!”

The Role

Your experience in reviewing, drafting and participating in the negotiation of contracts will be invaluable in contributing to the successful delivery of these projects. By participating in the management of contracts, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution processes, you will help keep the project on track and deliver EDF’s nuclear ambitions.

At HPC everyone is working towards the same objective and this creates a genuinely collaborative approach. The Legal team is a fully integrated part of the HPC team and it’s important that you have excellent communication skills and enjoy collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.
You’ll have a proactive, can-do approach and strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify risk, risk mitigations and present suitable options to the business balancing risk and reward. You’ll also have great attention to detail, providing highly pragmatic legal advice in the context of an established, commercial and operational business.

If you have relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor admitted in England and Wales with an understanding of non-contentious construction law then we’d love to hear from you! We have a full job description available and you can request this at application stage if you would like to view it.
