Lead Mechanical Engineer

Aztec West, Bristol - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you a motivated Mechanical Engineer seeking the next step in your career? Do you have a solid understanding of piping engineering and plant design principles in process industries? Do you have strong leadership skills to oversee technical work packages and team members? If so, come and join EDF as a Lead Mechanical Engineer!

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you’ll lead the detailed design of a 300km piping network for the HPC Nuclear Island, ensuring accurate delivery aligned with system requirements and configuration changes. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support design delivery and manage integration of final design changes into 3D models, while contributing to open point and UK Design Change management processes. Senior engineers will also mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary from £67,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the delivery of piping work packages for UK nuclear projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, design processes, and quality assurance, including chairing kick-off meetings.

You’ll drive the progress of designs and issue resolution to meet the project delivery schedule while planning, coordinating, and reporting on team progress to area managers and scheduling teams.

Additionally, you’ll mentor junior team members to enhance quality and competency, oversee the management of design changes, and troubleshoot emergent design issues, acting as a technical authority to propose solutions and ensure adherence to design specifications.

Who you are

Being a Mechanical Engineer means having a solid understanding of piping engineering and plant design principles within the process industries. You should also hold a degree or suitable diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

You’ll demonstrate proven competency in leading the delivery of technical work packages while supervising team members, and your excellent written and verbal communication skills will enable you to effectively support and share knowledge with the team. Additionally, you must be adaptable to the evolving needs of the project.

We’re seeking a proactive individual who meets commitments and deadlines, follows project engineering procedures, and possesses strong interpersonal skills for negotiation and conflict management, all while demonstrating high levels of technical coordination.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 27th October 2024
