If so, we’re looking for you to join us as our next Independent Technical Assessor working in our Systems Engineering department here at HPC!

 

The Opportunity…

 

Working as our next Independent Technical Assessor, you’ll be working as part of the Internal Nuclear Regulation (INR) function. The INR function serves as the internal regulator for the HPC project, adhering to nuclear industry best practices, international standards, and regulatory expectations. This critical role ensures the robustness and compliance of both the organisation and its supply chain in Safety, Security, and Quality. By providing independent and rigorous challenge, the INR function assures not just compliance but encourages the pursuit of best practices, pushing the organisation to exceed regulatory requirements and continually strive for excellence.

 

In this role, you’ll be ensuring that the project adheres to the highest standards of safety, security, and quality. Our mission is to provide independent challenge and assurance to the HPC project, pushing the organisation and its supply chain to exceed compliance and strive for best practices.

This role will be based working at both our Aztec West and Gloucester Business Park offices 2-3 days a week minimum and the other days possibly working from home. There is also a requirement for regular visits to our Hinkley Point C site. We are looking for you to be flexible on locations of working as each week is different depending on business need.

What you’ll be doing…

 

As our next Independent Technical Advisor, you’ll offer a technical review of our safety cases and related engineering substantiation, reinforcing the overall "barrier model" in the team. Additionally, you’ll ensure robust processes are in place for the creation and review of the safety case and its supporting documentation, providing comprehensive assurance and enhancing safety standards.

 

Other roles and responsibilities also include:

  • Offer an independent perspective on technical and safety issues to both internal stakeholders and external regulators.
  • Oversee the Intelligent Customer and Responsible Designer processes, ensuring project support organisations provide thorough internal checking and assurance of design and safety case deliverables.
  • Conduct independent reviews of key installation and commissioning activities at the HPC site, Safety case documentation and design deliverables, especially those linked to the safety case (PCmSR) & Significant plant modifications.
  • Integrate assessment outputs to present a high-level view of the design, installation, commissioning, and safety case processes, escalating issues as needed.
  • Represent the ITA Manager at key decision-making forums.
  • Oversee and support the resolution of emerging technical issues.

 

Who you are…

 

As our next Independent Technical Assessor, you’ll utilise your engineering qualifications and expertise in systems engineering disciplines such as configuration and requirements management in this role. As a problem solver and strong communicator, you will provide credible and compelling advice to stakeholders, offering valuable insights into the business and delivering difficult messages when necessary. Your ability to find pragmatic solutions during reviews and assessments will be crucial. Joining our team of systems engineering assessors, you will apply your skills and knowledge across a broad range of engineering topics, ensuring the success and integrity of our projects.

 

Other requirements for this position include:

  • Degree in a relevant science or engineering subject, ideally a Chartered Engineer or equivalent vocational experience, with a broad understanding of the systems engineering discipline.
  • Strong ethical behaviour, integrity, and a questioning attitude, with the ability to identify insights and trends from diverse information sources.
  • Flexible and willing to tackle unfamiliar tasks, demonstrating the ability to work autonomously and in teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of engaging and influencing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Clear and concise communication skills to articulate complex technical issues to varied audiences effectively, ensuring efficient delivery of verbal or written feedback.
