The Opportunity

 

Edvance is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, an EPCC established in 2018. Edvance UK is the UK branch of Edvance SAS and is currently dedicated to the design of BNI for Hinkley Point C (and preparations for Sizewell C).

 

We are based in a newly refurbished, modern office on Aztec West in Bristol. There are over 300 of us here and we’re proud that it can feel like a big multi-cultural family - we have 40 different nationalities.

 

The System Engineer will be responsible to perform the necessary engineering analyses, including the supporting calculations, for a specific system(s) in order to update the system documentation required for the HPC project working from Edvance Bristol office. 

 

The System Engineer will act as the central point of contact for system(s) which fall(s) under their responsibility. This role is for a System Engineer specialising in design of fluid and decontamination systems.
 

The Person

 

•    Responsible for updating the System Design Manual including:
o Analysis and verification of the input data
o Describing the system, its role and mission (including the safety missions)
o Updating and implementing the Safety Classified Component List, SCCL, working closely with the Safety Department (SNE) at Edvance (EDF Paris)
o Carrying out the process and operational design of the system
o Sizing components e.g. pumps, pipework, pressure relief valves
o Producing component datasheets required for the procurement of equipment
o Ensuring the 3D model is accurate and consistent with the intended system design
o Working closely with counterparts in the Edvancel Paris office and with the client to agree common approaches and share knowledge

•     Management of modifications related to the system including:
o Managing requests for modifications to system(s) issued by various external parties
o Analysis and verification of the applicability of these modifications and challenging them as appropriate
o Developing technical solutions and presenting them to the client to help resolve technical issues
o Utilising the electronic Engineering Change Management tool

•    Coordination of an System Design Manual Activity
o Organising the activity, including organising pre-job and post job briefs, collection of input documents, producing a Design File for the activity
o Presenting the activity, process and planning for the activity to the team
o Reporting of activity progress to ESW management
 

The Skills

 

Essential:
• Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
• Knowledge of nuclear fluid system design, calculation and modelling
• Working knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
• Knowledge of PWR or AGR power station design and system
• Understanding of Safety Case construction and Nuclear Safety requirements placed on systems
• Skills in radioprotection and environment
• Knowledge of UK licensing requirements and its application within the HPC project

 

Desirable:
• Knowledge of EPR design principles and Safety Classification
• Experience of performing design work on UK nuclear facilities
• Ability to speak and write technical documents in French
• Familiarity with Human Performance techniques
• Experience of working on an operating plant or on an industrial site
• Knowledge of nuclear pressurized equipment (NPS/NPE regulations)
• Experience at a position related to nuclear decontamination or surface treatment

Language(s): English, French advantageous
