Environmental Engineer

Aztec West, Bristol - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you a passionate Environmental Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? Do you have experience in implementing environmental requirements, along with expertise in system design and process engineering? If so, come and join EDF as an Environmental Engineer!

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As an Environmental Engineer, you’ll lead environmental technical topics for both the HPC and SZC Projects, working within the Safety and Technical Integration Discipline Section, which handles Environment and Safety for EPR-E (UK). You’ll collaborate closely with project teams and clients, offering vital support to the Environmental Team Lead, the Environment Team, and the broader Safety and Technical Integration team.

You’ll provide high-quality support and maintain professionalism with the design teams, ensuring the design and implementation meet environmental requirements and standards expected for such prestigious projects.

This is a great opportunity for individuals with a strong engineering and environmental background to contribute to building one of Europe’s largest and most complex projects, supporting the role of nuclear energy in the UK’s future energy mix.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary from £52,000 to £58,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll manage technical aspects related to environmental requirements for systems and buildings throughout the design process, offering technical expertise during the design, construction, and commissioning phases. You’ll also contribute to or review reports in collaboration with other design teams and the Client, ensuring systems and buildings meet Edvance’s scope and standards.

You will play a key role in helping teams identify and apply relevant environmental regulations for the HPC and SZC sites. You’ll support the resolution of regulatory Assessment Findings, ensuring Edvance’s systems and structures align with the SZC replication strategy. Additionally, you’ll work closely with system engineers, civil engineers, and layout teams in both Paris and Bristol.

In this role, you’ll oversee the creation of chemical inventories and the COMAH justification for the EPR-E scope, applying appropriate methodologies to buildings and systems, and preparing the necessary reports. You’ll also participate in various Working Groups, attending regular meetings with design teams, Clients, or Regulators to discuss relevant issues and offer your support as needed.

Who you are

Being an Environmental Engineer means bringing experience from working in engineering projects, with a strong understanding of environmental requirements, studies, and assessments. You’ll be knowledgeable in implementing environmental requirements and familiar with demonstrating Best Available Techniques (BAT) to ensure compliance.

You’ll also have a solid grasp of Nuclear Safety Assessment Principles and practical experience applying them. With your background in system design and layout engineering, you’ll be equipped to navigate technical challenges with ease. Additionally, your ability to work with PDMS and Navisworks software will support your technical expertise.

We’re looking for someone with a strong engineering background, capable of analysing designs to ensure compliance with engineering standards.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 14th February 2025.
