The Civil/Structural Engineer will support the design development of the site buildings team scope for Hinkley Point C Power Station.

The role will include development of designs, design co-ordination, design surveillance, interface management and project management.

The Civil/Structural Engineer shall support the Design Engineering Team Coordination and the Building Leads within the Site Building Teams in the supervision, coordination and management of the concept and detailed designs. The role will involve engagement with both internal and external stakeholders for co-ordination, control of design development and surveillance.

The Civil/Structural Engineer shall provide technical support to the Building Leads and the Multi Discipline Team (MDT) in order to ensure the designs of the buildings is developed on time and budget in accordance with Regulatory and Technical Requirements.

The Site Building Team is responsible for a number of facilities across the HPC Site including, emergency response facilities, security facilities, waste stores, operational service centre, training centres, warehouses and stores.

The Civil/Structural Engineer is required to work closely with the respective Building Leads, Roads and Networks and Electrical Teams within the Design Engineering Team. To support the development of a compliant design arrangement to meet the end user’s needs.This post holder will:


  • Support the Building Leads in design related activities, including design co-ordination, stakeholder engagement, interface definition and management, developing user requirements definition and design surveillance.
  • Interface with other project specialists in the UK and France to ensure a fully coordinated design.
  • Have a good understanding of UK regulatory and legislative requirements and preferably in a nuclear environment.
  • Support the Site Buildings Team wider co-ordination and reporting requirements including; risk identification and review, management and tracking of team deliverables, oversight of team schedules and support to the change control process.
  • Manage technical queries and requests for information.
  • Support the transition of designs to site for construction.
  • The post holder will need good oral and written communication skills and able to build effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and organisations.
The Person

You will:

  • Support the definition of the technical requirements and scope for the site building designs to be delivered within the programme.
  • Ensure the Design and Specifications are interpreted correctly and new designs are up to date, fit for purpose and meet UK regulations and requirements.
  • Ensure detailed documented records are created and maintained to ensure future clarity of the process and outcomes.
  • Support the delivery of the design activities to ensure they are delivered safely, on time, to budget, meeting interface constraints and requirements.
  • Support the management of the technical Interfaces with other Stakeholders and between contracts to ensure the development of an integrated design.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members both in the UK and France.
The Skills

You will have:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience, and experience in civil / structural engineering.
  • Chartered or near chartered with the ICE/IStructE.
  • Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
  • Self-Motivation
  • Be a team Player.
  • Experience of developing technical solutions, with design decisions validated through design interface.
  • Understanding of UK Nuclear Regulations and legislation is desirable.
  • Experience of seismic structural design and analysis is beneficial.
  • Experience on large engineering/infrastructure projects and building/services design is beneficial.
