Are you experienced in Civil Design and Team Management with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills? Are you the type of person who likes a fast-paced environment where every day presents new challenges and opportunities to excel?

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As the Civil Group Lead for Building Design, you will oversee the functional management of our civil engineering team within this group. This role involves leading and standardising internal engineering processes across various projects, ensuring consistency in approach and maintaining the highest quality standards in all work delivered.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary between £78,000 - £82,000, depending on experience, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work closely with the Discipline Manager to prioritise safety and ensure high-quality design activities across the civil engineering group. This includes adherence to engineering standards, processes, tools, and methods outlined in the engineering manual. A key part of this role involves developing technical competencies within the civil discipline, with a strong emphasis on knowledge transfer between France and the UK for projects like Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC).

As the Group Lead, you will review engineering documents for compliance with technical, nuclear safety, and environmental standards, and provide the Discipline Manager with insights on quality-related risks, workload, scheduling, resource allocation, competencies, and budgeting.

This role also requires a strategic focus on technical leadership, health and safety, work planning, succession management, quality assurance, and on-the-job skill development. Additionally, you will work closely with project operational managers when civil resources are integrated into project teams, ensuring alignment across the civil discipline, fostering collaboration with the other civil groups within the projects.

Who you are

You will hold a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and possess extensive experience in the field, along with in-depth knowledge of Eurocodes and Health & Safety regulations. Have a solid understanding of EPR engineering processes and project engineering procedures, coupled with a demonstrated ability to set, achieve, and uphold high standards in safety and quality.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to build effective relationships with various stakeholders. Excellent team management and people engagement skills are also critical. A working knowledge of French, familiarity with the ETC-C design code, and experience with software like PDMS and TEKLA are desirable.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 13th November 2024
