The Opportunity

EDF’s UK EPR Design Centre has been created to further develop our nuclear expertise in Britain. It's a centre where leading companies can come together with us to support nuclear power station projects in their design, build and commissioning. This includes Hinkley Point C (HPC), which is under construction, and our proposed Sizewell C (SZC) project.

As a Civil Engineer working within the Responsible Designer (DIPNN), you’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the civil engineering requirements for buildings within the Conventional Islands for Sizewell C.

The Role

You’ll be ensuring that all civil engineering design work meets the requirements for the project, replicating the designs of HPC. Where needed, you’ll be proposing technical solutions to overcome any differences required in the design.

Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:

  • Receiving, analysing and verifying the consistency of the input data
  • Producing the deliverables for which you are responsible (assumption notes, technical specifications, calculation notes)
  • Performing technical verifications of civil engineering documents for your building
  • Creating and maintaining the Design Risk Register
  • Making the necessary clarifications to the documents within Conventional Island’s scope
  • Contributing to the monitoring of civil execution drawings and anchorages designed by the equipment suppliers
  • Providing support in dealing with the non-conformity and adaptation reports issued by the Contractor and relaying the modifications to the design office

The Skills

To be successful in this role you’ll be able to demonstrate:

  • A civil engineering degree or equivalent experience, including experience in a design office
  • Understanding of the Eurocodes related to civil engineering, especially the design of fastenings in concrete
  • Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations
  • Experience in the design of reinforced concrete and pre-stressed concrete structures

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the design of steelwork structures
  • Ability to deal with design and layout constraints
  • Experience in the nuclear sector
  • Experience in plant layout engineering
