CAD Team Deputy

Aztec West, Bristol - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you an experienced CAD professional looking to take the next step in your career? Do you have expert knowledge of PDMS or E3D and a passion for coordinating complex design projects across multiple engineering disciplines? Are you someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, solving technical challenges and guiding a team to deliver high-quality outputs? If so, come and join EDF as a CAD Team Deputy!

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As a CAD Team Deputy, you’ll manage and maintain the PDMS/E3D model for specific building(s), ensuring overall model quality, data accuracy, and tool consistency. You’ll coordinate CAD activities for your assigned building(s) by managing priorities within the EPR-E WeCAD tool and supporting a pool of CAD Designers. Additionally, you’ll work closely with Engineers to solve complex issues, deliver key project tasks, and provide training, guidance, and clarity to other team members to support project delivery.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary of £61,000 to £66,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll support the organisation of the Design Office by coordinating key activities such as new starter onboarding, acting as the initial point of contact, assisting with interviews, and participating in budget assignment discussions. In the absence of the Design Office Lead, you’ll serve as a key point of contact for high-level topics beyond the responsibilities of Model Managers.

You’ll manage Model Manager tasks, including acting as the go-to expert for specific building layouts and piping challenges, resolving clashes, and ensuring the overall health of the PDMS/E3D model. You’ll oversee WeCAD tasks by creating work plans, performing quality checks, and approving outputs to ensure compliance with design standards.

You will take responsibility for multi-discipline tasks, ensuring coordination between various engineering teams, addressing building-specific interfaces, and driving task completion. You’ll also perform detailed model checks against design documents (e.g., P&IDs and single-line diagrams), identify errors, and liaise with disciplines to implement solutions.

You’ll maintain an in-depth understanding of UKDC procedures and workflows, ensuring PDMS/E3D attributes are accurate and handle data into PDMS/E3D, produce model conversions (e.g., Tekla, Navisworks), and provide key reporting from the model. Through your expertise, you’ll support continuous improvement and share knowledge across the CAD team to achieve project and business objectives.

Who you are

You’ll have experience in design office environments and a strong working knowledge of PDMS/E3D and AutoCAD. You’ll bring a broad understanding of multiple engineering disciplines such as pipework, electrical, HVAC, and civil engineering, with a solid grasp of layout rules and the technical constraints associated with plant design. Your ability to understand complex building layouts, manage design and layout challenges, and apply proactive solutions is essential to this role.

We’re looking for someone with advanced PDMS skills, including master-level or admin capabilities, and the ability to generate reports and manage data within the system. You’ll be confident creating detailed design documents, establishing procedures, and guiding CAD Designers in delivering high-quality outputs. Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to handle complex multi-disciplinary projects are key, along with a commitment to continuous improvement and effective stakeholder engagement.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 26th January 2025

Success is personal. It’s your journey, powered by us. Join us and we’ll help Britain achieve Net Zero, together.
