The Opportunity

 

As our next Assistant Project Manager, you’ll be a key part of driving the successful delivery of detailed design engineering activities for the HPC Project, ensuring every stage of the contract lifecycle aligns with the overall project schedule. You’ll be responsible for overseeing planning and execution in line with strict safety, quality, time, and cost standards to meet project goals. As the Assistant Project Manager, your focus will be on managing RD and Nuclear Services Contracts, ensuring that all engineering deliverables are completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

What you will be doing

 

In this role, you’ll build and sustain effective relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring their expectations are met whenever possible. You’ll also drive adherence to Health and Safety, Schedule, and Quality Assurance standards, setting an example with an unwavering commitment to nuclear professionalism and safety. You’ll take on tasks that support the broader project management team or your own professional development, contributing to the overall success of the project. Additional roles and responsibilities include:

 

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders, executing Project strategies within contract delivery.
  • Oversee delivery of the RD & Nuclear Services Task Order, ensuring alignment with goals and standards.
  • Drive safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery of key contract areas, meeting all business and technical requirements.
  • Track programme progress against milestones, deadlines, budget, and funding, providing stakeholders with detailed progress reports.
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve contract-related issues within scope; identify risks and escalate issues as needed.
  • Manage the interface between the Responsible Designer, Nuclear Services contract team, and HPC Technical teams.
  • Identify and coordinate stakeholder involvement, including project management, document management, project controls, and commercial and technical teams.
  • Report regularly on progress, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and any challenges.

 

Who you are

 

We’re looking for you to hold a strong foundation in managing complex engineering or construction projects, ideally with hands-on experience in Project Management or Project Engineering. Familiarity with NEC contracts is a big plus, as is a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant science or engineering field. Additional requirements for this role include:

 

  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Proven coordination skills with a natural aptitude for leadership
  • Good understanding of quality standards and requirements
  • Effective decision-maker with the ability to escalate issues when needed
  • Commercial and budget awareness
  • Quick learner with a demonstrated problem-solving mindset
  • Skilled in building and managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Solid knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements
  • Familiarity with power station design, ideally EPR or NPP
