The Opportunity
The Warehouse SME plays a critical role in driving operational excellence by embedding warehousing expertise across EDF’s operations in collaboration with its 3PL partner. This position will lead the charge in identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities, working closely with the 3PL CI lead to deliver tangible results.
Beyond improvement initiatives, the Warehouse SME will serve as a key advisor, offering strategic guidance to address warehouse-related risks and challenges, such as capacity optimisation and storage solutions. By proactively unblocking these obstacles, the SME ensures seamless operations. Ultimately, this role empowers EDF Energy to make well-informed decisions that support the efficient and timely execution of its work scope.

What you will be doing
The role focuses on delivering expertise and actionable insights to enhance warehouse operations, working closely with 3PL partners to define and implement optimisation initiatives. By collaborating with the Logistics Analyst, the role ensures performance is continuously monitored and improvement opportunities are identified. Partnering with the 3PL CI Lead, the position drives initiatives to streamline processes, while supporting Logistics Capacity Leads in addressing capacity constraints. Additionally, it fosters close collaboration with 3PL counterparts to refine and execute these initiatives, ensuring alignment across teams. A key aspect of the role is working with the Construction team to integrate warehouse processes seamlessly with Final Mile operations, driving efficiency and cohesion across the supply chain. Additional responsibilities include:
- Oversee the day-to-day execution of logistics services, ensuring alignment with performance standards set by Logistics leadership.
- Contribute to the development of leadership KPIs, enabling clear communication and alignment of performance objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance on maintaining metrics and analysing data to evaluate performance and recommend enhancements.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks to logistics operations, such as capacity challenges, to ensure smooth workflows.
- Collaborate with the 3PL Partner to define continuous improvement initiatives and support the Senior Logistics Operations Manager in developing actionable CI plans.
- Conduct detailed reviews of logistics processes and recommend updates to enhance efficiency.
- Offer expert guidance to address and resolve warehouse-related risks and issues, including capacity optimisation initiatives like storage solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement by proactively adopting best practices and integrating lessons learned into operations.
- Foster collaboration with Programme teams and industry partners, ensuring a consistent and transparent approach.
- Uphold the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of corporate information, safeguarding it against unauthorised access, modification, or destruction.
Who you are
To be successful in this role, we’re looking for you have a delivery-focused mindset with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, ensuring alignment across teams. With a strong grasp of logistics management, engineering, procurement, and construction methods in a UK context, you also bring expertise in logistics risk analysis. Your analytical and numerical skills support informed decision-making, and you excel at building relationships both internally and externally. You ensure the timely delivery of accurate logistics reports to guide strategic decisions and are adept at understanding how changes or decisions impact project delivery. Additional requirements for this role include:
- Extensive expertise in warehouse and logistics operations, offering valuable insights into operational needs.
- Deep knowledge and experience in logistics functions, including inventory management, supply chain planning, and transport management.
- Process-oriented with a strong understanding of leading practices for warehouse operations.
- Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled at communicating complex issues and unique insights clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical senior audiences.
- Excellent organisational and time management capabilities.
- Collaborative team player, adept at working across organisational boundaries to achieve shared success.
To be successful in this role, we’re looking for you to hold a degree or equivalent industry experience, along with expertise in Warehouse and Logistics Operations solutions, such as WMS (Warehouse Management Systems). Your ability to manage the implementation and successful delivery of complex projects using these tools will be critical. You should have a proven track record of supporting teams to maximise their performance and experience working in large, integrated teams throughout the full project lifecycle. Your proficiency with risk management tools like ARM and your skill in presenting complex information to senior executives and stakeholders will set you up for success in this role.
