Satellite Delivery Centre, Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater, Hybrid working 3 days in office, with regular international travel.

The Opportunity
 

Join the Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) team, a cornerstone in the UK’s future energy strategy. As the UK’s next-generation nuclear power station, HPC stands as a testament to innovative engineering, construction, and stellar leadership. And we are in search of a Project Manager with exceptional leadership qualities to guide this ambitious endeavour.

 

As the Project Manager (PM) for our Turbine Programme, you will provide leadership for the effective delivery of the assigned work package(s) within the Conventional Island (CI) Programme of HPC, while recognising and managing the programme’s impacts on the wider Project. Input design is completed by the EDF Responsible Designer, with the detail design completed by the equipment supplier.

 

You will report to the Senior Project Manager for Design & Manufacturing (Turbine Programme) and are responsible for the direction and leadership of activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of the Pumps.

 

Your responsibility is to ensure delivery of all (or part of) the engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities for the life cycle of the contract or work package in accordance with the overall Project schedule. Ensure planning and delivery is in accordance with all safety, quality, time, and cost parameters to meet the Project’s needs.

What you’ll be doing…

 

  • Define the work scope and interfaces within the contract or package of work.
  • Develop and implement strategies and plans aligned with the Programme Execution Plan (PEP).
  • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders.
  • Ensure safe, timely, and budget-compliant delivery of contract activities, tracking progress and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within the contract or package, identifying risks and escalating to the Senior Project Manager as needed.
  • Conduct contract administration activities, including variations, claims, and technical queries, with Commercial Manager support.
  • Oversee the Tier 1 supply chain to maintain Nuclear Safety, involving numerous international suppliers.
  • Resolve manufacturing issues and non-conformances to ensure quality and schedule adherence.
  • Manage contract changes, including scope definition, business justification, and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain level 3 schedules, ensuring alignment with overall project schedules and leveraging the Schedule Tracker tool.

 

 

Who you are…

 

  • Degree in engineering or a related field, with a preference for mechanical engineering.
  • Proven experience with centrifugal pumps, motors, and variable speed gearboxes.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing major projects from concept to handover, throughout the project lifecycle within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
  • Strong skills and experience in project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. With strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Management of commercial claims and associated negotiation experience.
  • Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
  • Successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors in a regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of French would be advantageous.
