Operations Development Engineer

Vacancy Overview

The Operational Development Engineer is responsible for supporting the Work Management Lead, in accordance with the overall project schedule. This role will specifically be focused in the area of Work Management. At Hinkley Point C (HPC) Work Management Covers Supply Chain, On-line, Off-line Maintenance, Investment Delivery (Projects, Investment Planning and Modifications) and Fuel Route.

The role will give someone the exciting opportunity to develop and deliver the Work Management Strategy for HPC from the ground up.

Pre-Operations is split into the following programmes of work aligned to meet the current needs of the project:

  • Asset Management, covering Equipment Reliability (Elective Maintenance), Work Management, Surveillance Programmes (Mandatory Maintenance) and Maintenance (Execution);
  • Operate the Plant, covering operational procedures, technical specification development, safety from the system, training specification;
  • Technical and Safety, covering the provision of Radiation Protection Adviser advice, compliance standards, preparations for radiography, emergency arrangements regulatory issues and Level 4 regulatory interface;
  • Operational Capability, working with HR and Generation on resource planning, terms and conditions and organisational structure

The Operational Development Engineer will report through to the Work Management Lead, who reports through to the Asset Management Programme Manager.

HPC is one of four EPR Technology Power Stations and has close links to EDF’s Energy’s existing nuclear business. As part of the development of the Work Management strategy it is important that we embedded the lessons learned from the other EPR Technology Power Stations and EDF’s Energy’s existing nuclear business.

Nature and Scope

·       Execute all work with Safety and Cost Culture values and beliefs embedded.

·       Deliver specified areas of the Work Management Strategy;

·       Provide delivery support through contract reviews for specified plant or buildings.

·       Provide input into the development of standards, procedures and arrangements which support safe and reliable operation and maintenance activities.

·       Maintain interfaces (technical & functional) with other HPC departments EPR Family Stations and EDF Energy’s existing Nuclear Business.

·       Provide input to the management of issues with the potential to impact future plant availability.

·       Research operating experience from the wider industries applicable to the HPC project and promote its use and application to make HPC a World Class performer.

·       Maximise effective use of time and personal ability; work flexibly within own range of competence; undertake the appropriate training and development to extend skills and abilities to meet the needs of the business.

As individual’s progress through the PDP levels, the scope and complexity of work will increase along with the level of accountability

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

Essential

 

Please note - The following essential knowledge and experience could have been met in hazardous industries outside of the nuclear industry.

 

·       Able to develop work plans and delivery them safely and efficiently.

·       Familiar with electrical generation plant, processes and people arrangements.

·       Have experience of working in a project environment.

·       Experience of dealing with a wide range of suppliers and customers (UK based and international)

·       Good at building relationships with all levels within an organisation.

·       Degree in engineering or science discipline.

·       Experience of developing and reviewing technical information.

 

Desirable

 

·       Fluent in either Mandarin Chinese or French.

·       Chartered Status, or working towards Chartered Status with an appropriate Engineering or Science Institute

·       Knowledge and experience of light water pressurised reactors.

·       Experience in the development and delivery of training and an understanding of the systematic approach to training (SAT) process

·       An understanding of human performance error prevention tools.
