EDF’s Engineering Directorate’s main role is to project manage the delivery of design on behalf of the Programmes and ensure the overall integration of engineering activities throughout the Hinkley Point C Project: managing the configuration, the interface process, technical OPEX, the engineering methods and tools.


The Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC (MEH) Design Management Team (DMT) is an Engineering Directorate function embedded within the MEH Programme; whose main responsibility is to deliver on-time a safe, constructible and commissionable design to support the MEH activities. MEH DMT is accountable for the delivery of a scope of disciplines covering Piping, HVAC and Electrical. 


We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanicl Engineering Lead to join the HPC project, covering all disciplines but with a particular focus on piping. You will be based next to the HPC site at the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre (SEIC), with the flexibility to work from home on a regular basis. 

The Role

 

Reporting to the Technical Support Team Engineering Manager, you will oversee the end- to- end design process of the Piping discipline which is split into three contracts – Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI), Balance of Plant (BOP) and Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Auxiliary.


Your principle accountabilities will be as follows:


•    Identify and respond to all (discipline and building specific) critical issues, hot spots and tasks that impact the MEH Programme design delivery
•    Propose and manage action plans, in line with objectives given by the DMT Senior Leadership Team 
•    Assess and coordinate the implementation of Design Change proposals 
•    Define the design sequence to be used by the Execution Designers 
•    Interface with all Contract Engineering Leads associated with the MEH Programme contracts
•    Provide contract technical support for Execution Designer contracts
•    Identify engineering risks associated with Critical Issues, Hot Spots and support in the mitigation of such risks
•    Record and communicate lessons learned from the Principle Designer

The Skills

 

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

 

•    Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline 
•    Experience in nuclear, or a heavily- regulated industry i.e. aerospace, oil & gas, energy or public sector works
•    Proven ability to successfully deliver engineering safely to the correct quality, time and cost
•    Meticulous and rigorous approach to engineering to achieve high standards
•    Excellent stakeholder management ability
•    Knowledge of contractual and commercial mechanisms
