MEH People Programme Lead

Are you results orientated senior professional? Are you capable of delivering results and leading within a matrix organisation, whilst fostering relationships that balance support with challenge? Do you have a proven track record of influencing and effectively challenging at a senior level?

If so, come and join EDF as an MEH People Programme Lead!

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we're constructing two new nuclear reactors — the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK — which will provide low-carbon electricity to approximately six million homes.

The MEH (Mechanical Electrical and HAVC) programme comprises an MEH Alliance, integrated with a Client MEH Programme team. The project is delivered by staff from all 5 Alliance organisations plus EDF staff and staff employed through agencies and framework suppliers. These organisations all have their own people policies and processes and therefore we are looking for highly experienced HR professional who can manage people with this challenging environment.

The MEH People Programme Lead will lead activity including (but not limited to) developing and implementing an effective culture of performance, holding the different employers within the MEH Alliance to account for the performance of their people and the effectiveness of their HR processes & supporting a culture of shared learning and collaboration between the different employers working on the MEH programme.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive salary we offer a benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

This is a senior leadership role – you will need to have the experience and authority to challenge the senior leaders of the different organisations and to work with them to deliver excellent people practices within the programme. You will not manage a team but will enact work through the MEH Alliance HR function, acting as ‘Intelligent Customer’ and client.

You will need to ensure that all activities and approaches are planned and delivered, aligning to the overall Workforce Development Strategy that you are responsible for regularly creating and updating as part of the DCO commitments. Your insights and input will be essential to drive the working of a ‘best in class’ construction project and the continuous improvement of the overall approach.

As a MEH People Programme Lead, you will play a crucial leadership role in ensuring that contractors meet their obligations.

Who you are

This role requires extensive experience in people management within a complex, unionized, multi-organization construction environment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of appropriate employment law and HR best practices and their pragmatic application in an alliance.

They must demonstrate expertise in the areas of change and strategic consulting, performance management, reward management, people development, talent management resourcing and ER/engagement.

Key competencies include leadership in a matrix-managed organization, senior-level influence, and a results-oriented focus on continuous improvement.

Strong relationship-building skills, resilience in a changing and ambiguous environment, experience in the energy, construction or nuclear industries, and collaboration with Trade Unions are essential.

Experience in financial oversight and commercial procedures, as well as regulatory knowledge are desirable.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 19th September 2024
