Layout Engineer

Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater.

Are you an experienced engineer with a strong background in managing cross-disciplinary technical topics? Can you prioritise tasks and handle complex interfaces? Are you looking to apply your expertise in a dynamic and collaborative environment supporting nuclear new build projects? If so, come and join EDF as a Layout Engineer!

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

The Joint Design Organisation (JDO), led by the HPC Client (NNB) and supported by EPR-e and contractors, provides technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning to address site challenges and issues.

As a Layout Engineer you’ll be supporting field design activities, particularly managing layout-related tasks for CI-BOP buildings.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary from £52,000 to £57,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work on technical topics related to the scope of the Responsible Designer for CI-BOP buildings, addressing site events such as Open Points (OP), Design Changes, Requests for Information (RFI), Field Change Requests (FCR), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR). This involves assessing layout impacts, gathering inputs, analysing multidisciplinary impacts, and proposing solutions with supporting justification. You’ll liaise with other disciplines, design teams, and contractors, ensure design intent is maintained, and update deliverables as needed to support implementation.

You’ll also contribute to closing design open points, monitor and manage modifications, and ensure compliance with processes, methods, and tools. Regularly reporting to the Layout CI-BOP Team Lead, you’ll share progress, raise alerts, and document lessons learned. As part of the JDO Layout team, you’ll participate in team meetings, collaborate on technical topics, and help drive the production of high-quality deliverables to support the project.

Who you are

You will have strong experience in managing cross-disciplinary technical topics, with excellent organisational, interpersonal, and writing skills. Clear communication, both written and verbal, is essential for producing documents, coordinating activities, and managing interfaces with various stakeholders.

You’ll have the ability to prioritise effectively, handle numerous interfaces, and understand the constraints and requirements of other disciplines. We’re looking for someone who is highly organised, capable of meeting commitments and deadlines, and skilled at fostering collaboration across teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 6th February 2025.

Success is personal. It’s your journey, powered by us. Join us and we’ll help Britain achieve Net Zero, together.
