HPC Learning & Continuous Improvement Manager

The Opportunity:

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK for more than 20 years.  With an anticipated lifespan of 60 years, it will provide safe, reliable, low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

Reporting to the Site Construction Director, the Learning & Continuous Improvement Manager is responsible for establishing and developing a dynamic and agile HPC site learning & improvement team that provides incident investigation expertise, lesson capture, processing and embedding learning in real time to successfully deliver key milestones on this major construction project in the UK. 

You will generate management information from all learning data sources to support safety, quality, environmental and security work in line with the schedule of construction, commissioning and operational activities, and support the Site Construction Director with achieving the desired culture through each phase of the Project.

Linked into the Company’s central Quality & Learning function, you will drive learning within the HPC construction site and inform other new build projects at Sizewell C, Bradwell and the wider nuclear community. 

Based on site, you will deal with problems, challenges, conflicts and risks associated with implementing and developing project culture through continual improvement and business planning activity. 

The post is important to maintaining compliance to the nuclear site licence and the individual will be suitably qualified and experienced.


Principal Accountabilities

Principal Accountabilities:

The post-holder will:

  • Characterise the constituents of Project Culture (nuclear safety culture, quality culture, environmental safety culture, industrial safety culture, Security culture et al) using international best practice to develop the strategy and implement it across the HPC Site.
  • Drive the training delivery organisation and manage the leader authorisation process to meet the increasing demand as project numbers grow.
  • Carry out supervisor coaching sessions to authorise them as recipients of the Leaders Lanyard.
  • Ensure project culture is clearly embedded in the supply chain as companies mobilise to Site to ensure that their participation reaches the joint expectations of EDF and its key stakeholders.
  • Develop and roll out learning & improvement throughout the HPC Site and supporting facilities throughout the phases of the project to foster continual improvement.
  • Build on current arrangements to interface with all relevant regulators to enable them to observe a healthy integrated project safety culture and continuous improvement environment.
  • Manage 6 direct reports who influence a team of matrixed staff within the Tier 1 contract partners



The Person:

We’re looking for someone with an innovative approach to capturing lessons learned and implementing proactive solutions that will be used to minimise risk to potential / repeat events. You’ll have the ability to engage and support appropriate action management through risk-based assessments and trending, and will base your decisions on an extensive and broad experience of complex construction or operation activities.

Qualifications & Experience:



  • Senior role in Licensee organisation
