The Opportunity

EDF’s Engineering Directorate’s main role is to project manage the delivery of design on behalf of the Programmes and ensure the overall integration of engineering activities throughout the Hinkley Point C Project: managing the configuration, the interface process, technical OPEX, the engineering methods and tools. 

Within the Engineering Directorate is the Nuclear Island Design Management Team (NI DMT), responsible for the delivery Nuclear Island design and for being the key engineering point of contact between the engineering directorate and the Responsible Designer teams. 

Working within the NI DMT, the Area Engineering Lead will take responsibility for project management of the design and engineering for the ‘N2’ construction area (electrical and liaison buildings), with a scope covering I&C, civil structures, piping systems, electrical services and HVAC equipment. 

The Person


Reporting to the Area Engineering Manager, you will be the single point of contact across the multi- disciplinary area team for engineering.

Your key responsibilities will include:

•    Supporting the Senior Area Project Manager with technical advice and judgement, to allow Best for Project decisions to be made
•    Applying subject matter expertise to provide engineering resolutions, ensuring projects meet schedule and cost requirements
•    Undertake proactive, forward- looking engineering interface management activities to ensure project progression with minimal risk
•    Highlight engineering risks and drive mitigation through the relevant channels
•    Engage with the Joint Design Office (JDO) located on site to manage short term issues with delivery activities
•    Monitor engineering Design Open Points
•    Review design changes to safeguard design stability
•    Assist in the resolution of technical issues at risk of not meeting Safety Case requirements 
•    Provide input to Engineering, Programme and Project Change Boards to manage scope gaps and scope adjustments
•    Deal with Early Warnings from the Responsible Designer and actively work in risk reduction workshops to mitigate technical/schedule/commercial issues 
•    Support Plant Integration in management of the Engineering contract including assessment of the quotation values

The Skills


You will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:


•    Degree in a relevant science or engineering subject
•    Excellent project management and organisational skills
•    Understanding of quality requirements
•    Budget and commercial awareness
•    Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements
•    Outstanding communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
•    Knowledge of power station design (EPR or NPP)
•    Ability to travel regularly between the various project Command Centres and engineering entities


•    Experience within the Nuclear Industry
•    Knowledge of design process and design activities related to Nuclear Industry
•    Ability to communicate in French both verbally and in written form
