The Opportunity

The Joint Design Office (JDO) was created by EDF to reinforce Hinkley Point C’s site-based engineering capability to allow for a quicker response to on site engineering queries and problems. Among its main aims, The JDO is committed to managing the changes to Civil, Mechanical and Electrical design during construction according to safety, quality, schedule and cost. 


Created with EDF’s new nuclear engineering division (DIPNN UK) and Edvance UK, a primary benefit of this organisation is to save time on construction by having on-site reactive answers and solutions, allowing construction teams to continue their activities with minimal delay. The JDO also protects Responsible Designer teams, in France, and allows them time to focus on core engineering design.

The Person

 

As the Structural and Steelworks Engineer, your role will focus on metallic structures (stainless steel and carbon steel), specifically liner, and managing the design liaison with concrete parts, pipes, electrical and ventilation interfaces predominantly for civil structures at the HPC site.   
 

Your main responsibilities will be:

 

•    Clarification of design deliverables
•    Management of modifications of detailed design documents (calculation, drawings)
•    Review of construction non-conformances and proposed solutions made by others
•    Review of construction modifications and proposed solutions made by others
•    Participate to collaborative meeting with designers, constructors and project managers
•    Collaborative activities with detailed designers
•    Manage design interfaces

The Skills

 

You will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:


•    Degree Qualified in related engineering discipline or equivalent experience
•    Experience in the design of concrete and metallic structures, ideally with thin thickness (6mm) in stainless or carbon steel
•    Experience in welding
•    Experience on projects dealing with material interfaces


Desirable:


•    Charted status or willingness to achieve chartered status
•    Experience of large scale complex civil design projects in nuclear, energy, oil & gas or public sector works
