Assistant Project Manager

Satellite Delivery Centre, Bridgwater. 2/3 days per week in the office with regular travel to HPC site required.

Do you have experience supporting large, complex projects in highly regulated industries? Can you collaborate with diverse teams and influence key stakeholders effectively? Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on one of the biggest projects in Europe?

If so, join us as an Assistant Project Manager, as we continue to lead the rebirth of Nuclear in the UK.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are constructing two new nuclear reactors, marking the first of a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. Once operational, these reactors will provide low-carbon electricity to power around six million homes.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll report directly to a Project Manager and be part of the WIC (Wrapping, Insulation, and Caulking) Area within the MEH (Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC) Programme.

You’ll support the full life cycle delivery of work packages, from concept through to installation, with package values of around £100 million. This includes being accountable for engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and construction activities, all aligned with the Integrated Project schedule.

WIC is a highly ambitious and technically challenging scope and is essential to HPC operation. You’ll work with the Project Manager to ensure delivery meets safety, quality, time, and cost objectives for this iconic project.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary circa £40,000 (negotiable depending on experience), and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

In your role, you will assist the Project Manager in delivering the WIC scope for HPC, ensuring that established goals and objectives are met.  Assisting in developing and maintaining project schedules, you will track milestones and ensure deadlines are met. You will identify and help resolve issues or risks that may impact project delivery, escalating significant concerns to the Project Manager as necessary.

You will help secure and coordinate the necessary resources, including personnel and materials, to complete project tasks on time. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and organising project documentation, ensuring accessibility and compliance with Nuclear New Build (NNB) procedures.

You will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and support. Additionally, you will assist in budget management and regularly provide updates on project status, progress against deliverables, and challenges faced by the team, ensuring transparency and effective project management.

Who you are

You are a knowledgeable project professional with strong people management skills, enabling you to build relationships, influence others, and work collaboratively within complex, multidisciplinary teams.

Ideally you should be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering, construction, or related technical subject, and holding a professional qualification in Project Management, such as APM PPQ, is a plus.

You are an effective communicator with excellent written and oral presentation skills, capable of interacting with senior managers and conveying information clearly. You should have good analytical skill, allowing you to display a logical thought process, conduct budget analysis, and perform forecasting with ease.

You are able to work to tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail in your work and are adaptable, able to navigate a technically complex and fast-changing environment, and respond calmly and rationally to evolving project requirements.

Closing date for applications: 27th October 2024
