Electric Technical Operations Manager

The Opportunity

Electrical Compliance Engineer, Flexible, Competitive Salary & Flexible Benefits Package.

This is an exciting time to join our Smart Metering Install Team and be part of the Department driving the strategy of the project, with a focus on pre and post deployment as we move into the future. You’ll have operational responsibility for developing and management of electrical standards within our metering business at a significant time, considering the on-going Smart Metering Deployment activity and other New Energy products.

Day to day you’ll:

  • Establish and lead the electrical aspects of the technical assurance function for all metering activity and ensure that it operates effectively and adheres to corporate and external standards including SMICOP, MOCOPA and any relevant Licence conditions.
  • Lead a team of qualified engineers in authoring and maintaining policies, procedures and process for electrical metering activity within EDF Energy’s internal field force, and to review the corresponding documentation of contracted field force service providers such that they meet the same standards.
  • Provide leadership and focus on Safety and Health across Customer Operations and support the provision of processes and plans to guarantee an incident free performance within the Technical and Quality Assurance Team.
  • Co-ordinate projects of an electrical technical nature which promote technical or safety improvement or operational efficiency.
  • Contribute at and represent EDF Energy regarding electric matters at external and internal panels and boards such as AMO, & MOCOPA.
  • Drive the Trust agenda forward by ensuring that all decisions affecting customers meet the Trust Test, deliver the desired customer outcomes and provide customers with the ability to make informed choices.
The Person

This opportunity is for you if you can demonstrate strong operational management and technical skills combined with the ability to develop detailed and robust plans to implement strategic measures.  You have excellent technical knowledge of electrical metering services and all related scenarios such as health and safety, regulation and continuity planning.

You should be an experienced people and stakeholder manager with the ability to prioritise conflicting priorities and to work effectively under pressure.  You’re able to collaborate across diverse business areas and stakeholder groups using your influencing and negotiating skills to manage expectations, resolve differences and negotiate the best solution to whatever issue you face.

You have experience of identifying and delivering efficiency improvements and feel comfortable challenging established approaches to create momentum and opportunities for change. You’ll have well developed written and verbal communication skills and can articulate and justify a position effectively.

You must be either a Chartered Electrical Engineer, or working towards Chartership, which we will support.

The Skills

You are:

  • Educated to degree standard in electrical engineering, or similar, or have CEng status
  • A MIET Chartered Engineer (or working towards
  • Experienced in providing technical leadership in the area of electrical operations together with all the associated responsibilities (e.g. Health & Safety, Regulatory Compliance, etc).
  • Experienced in managing technical suppliers exercising commercial acumen.
  • Experienced working as part of a team of technical experts.
  • Successful delivering change initiatives and efficiency and effectiveness improvements across end to end processes.
  • You will have an advantage if you are also BS7671 certified.
