Legal, Strategy and Compliance careers at EDF

Being one of the UK’s largest energy providers, we require a sound Legal team to make sure we’re fully compliant across our operation. A business of our size, in the industry we are in, makes for some interesting, complex and diverse legal challenges. If you’re a legal professional looking for a career where you can really put your skills to the test, you’ll find it at EDF.

Becoming part of our team

Legal is a fascinating area to work in. The constantly changing environment means work is challenging and varied, and the size and scope of EDF opens up a huge range of opportunities.

We’re looking for qualified solicitors to join us. We’re an accredited provider of legal training, so there’s plenty of opportunity to take and teach courses in the company, which will count towards your CPD training each year. As you develop and grow in your role, you’ll have more and more influence over important strategic decisions – having a real impact on the way we work.

Our teams

Nuclear Development

This is the team behind the smooth running of our Nuclear Development projects. Working closely with lawyers from EDF France and external experts, they take a ‘one-team approach’ to supporting the new nuclear programme – covering everything from planning developments to negotiating large contracts.

Nuclear & Upstream Generation

Nuclear & Upstream Generation provide legal support for our nuclear, coal and renewable-energy production. Working with the Office for Nuclear Regulation and EDF Renewables, they monitor and advise on complex regulations and laws and oversee the day-to-day legal implications of running power stations and wind farms.

Corporate & Dispute Resolution

Corporate & Dispute Resolution deal with IT contracts, software and other goods and services used across the company. This includes everything from property requirements, to mergers and acquisitions. The team also look after dispute resolution and litigation, ranging from low-value claims to high-value disputes with major contractors.

B2B and B2C & Governance

The B2B team work on the contracts, trading and market analysis associated with supplying electricity to very large clients.

The B2C & Governance team advise on the growing regulations governing residential energy supply – as well as supporting the development of energy products, price changes and contracts for over five-million residential customers. The team also includes a dedicated Secretariat function that supports EDF’s boards of directors and ensures our compliance with company law.

Rewards and benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, generous holiday allowance and annual company bonus when targets are met, we offer our employees a flexible benefits package that lets them select the benefits that best suit their lifestyle. Below are some of the benefits to choose from.

  • Holiday trading
  • Payroll giving
  • Dining cards
  • Travel insurance
  • Private healthcare insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Healthcare cash plan

Training

As a fully qualified Solicitor you’ll need to complete a mandatory 16 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training every year. EDF’s Legal team is also accredited as a provider of training, so you could take the opportunity to teach courses within the company – things like teaching your colleagues about new legislation. Once My Campus is up and running, this tool will also be available to help you shape training programmes and development courses.

Central Function insights

We employ over 12,000 people in the UK and have a very diverse, multidisciplinary workforce. As we both produce AND supply energy, unlike other energy suppliers we are able to provide more varied opportunities for professionals interested in ‘central functions’.
