Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship

Hinkley Point C (HPC) will be the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK and one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe. Sizewell C (SZC) will be the second of this generation to be built in the UK, following the construction of HPC. Construction and all supporting activities will be carried out by a large and diverse supply chain overseen by a project team. The Supply Chain function within the HPC Project Team is responsible for the placement and management of all of the contracts required to construct and commission the plant. This includes pre-contract procurement activities; managing tendering processes; contract negotiations and subsequent post contract commercial management. As a Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprentice you’ll sit in the Supply Chain Team working on the HPC or SZC Project.

What we’re looking for

• A national certificate or diploma in a business, construction or engineering related programme with a merit profile OR a minimum of two A-Levels grade A to C

• Four GCSE passes at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including maths and English

• Enthusiasm and motivation; a fast learner and team player

At the end of the apprenticeship you may move into a permanent role in the EDF Energy HPC Supply Chain team or within one of our Supply Chain partners. You’ll have years of experience behind you and a Quantity Surveyor Degree, you’ll also be well on your way to attaining membership of the professional body – RICS.

Overview

The HPC Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship will instil the skills to kickstart your career as a commercial professional with EDF Energy or one of our Supply Chain partners on the HPC project. You’ll spend five years learning from experts as part of the apprenticeship as well as studying for a university-level qualification.  On the scheme you’ll follow the Chartered Surveyor Apprentice Standard.

During the apprenticeship you’ll also be working towards attaining membership of a professional body (RICS), which demonstrates to the HPC supply chain and peers that you work to the highest professional and ethical standards. With our support you’ll study for a Quantity Surveyor Degree at University of the West of England (UWE).

At the end of the apprenticeship you may move into a permanent role in the EDF Energy HPC Supply Chain team or within one of our Supply Chain partners. As your career develops there’ll be opportunities to progress within your home organisation for EDF Energy this could be in the HPC Supply Chain team or you could explore opportunities across the wider project portfolio or within other areas of EDF Energy. Supply Chain partner opportunities could be across the whole wider company portfolio.

This year we have opportunities available within EDF Energy working on the HPC Project or with three of our supply chain partners – Mace, Faithful+Gould and Balfour Beatty. During the assessment centre, we’ll give you more details on each of the opportunities available and work with you and the other organisations to identify the best opportunity.

Where you'll be based

During the apprenticeship you will work in our central Bristol office or near HPC site or SZC office, with opportunities to work at other EDF Energy New Development locations or with our supply chain partners locations based around Bristol.

You’ll attend university on a day release basis in order to achieve the Quantity Surveyor Degree.  Please note, due to changes being introduced by UK Government the apprenticeship may be delivered against a different standard, which could change the delivery timetable.
