What we’re looking for

  • In England & Wales – GCSE Grade A-C in Maths, English and a Science or Technical subject
  • In Scotland – National 5s in Maths, English and a Science or Technical subject

Where we could take you

At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll move into a permanent role in the Project Controls team at our HPC site in Bridgwater, or our Bristol office, with responsibility for a specific project area. Subject to requirements, there will be further opportunities to continue into a degree level apprenticeship, specialise or explore other roles at EDF.

Overview

The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.  

The Project Controls function within the HPC Project Team ensures that project managers and senior managers have all the information they need to make decisions throughout the life-cycle of the projects. It’s a key role with a lot of responsibility.
 
During the apprenticeship you’ll work as a Project Controls Engineer based both in the office and with the engineering construction team on site, working alongside industry-leading professionals.

Over the three-year training programme you’ll learn to master core processed such as estimating, planning, risk management and cost engineering; whilst applying your knowledge with access to the latest computer systems.

Whilst you’re gaining practical real-world experience, you’ll also be studying for the Level 3 Project Controls Technician standard.

Where you'll be based

During the course of your apprenticeship you will work as part of the team based at the HPC construction site or our central Bristol office; with opportunities to work at other EDF locations. 
 
You’ll also spend time studying at the National College for Nuclear (Cannington) on block release, where you’ll complete assignments within the business which will enable you to consolidate your training.
