Nuclear Development

EDF Energy is at the heart of the UK’s new nuclear build programme. The nuclear power stations we plan to build will be the first in a new generation. So a career in this area is a truly unique opportunity – an opportunity to be at the forefront of new nuclear, and to enjoy a long and fruitful career helping us deliver the first nuclear power stations in the UK for twenty years.

The first station to be built will be Hinkley Point C, Somerset, sited next to Hinkley Point A and B stations. This will be followed by two new reactors at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Together these will form one of the biggest construction projects in Europe and they offer the chance to gain invaluable experience working with the latest reactor technology.

Throughout the initial development and construction phase, opportunities will focus on project managers, electrical, mechanical, control & instrumentation engineers and specialists. In the longer term, we also want to hear from nuclear operational experts, security professionals (for both information and nuclear security), quality assurance, quality control and safety case professionals as well as highly skilled procurement experts.

In addition to the above, we will be recruiting for roles within our support functions, such as HR and Finance. Please see these areas of the site for more information and available roles

What we look for

Opportunities in nuclear new build are exceptionally rewarding and challenging. These are not standard 9-to-5 roles – you will be critical to the success of a major development in the UK energy market and you’ll need to be able to rise to the challenge. In return, you’ll be able to take your place at the leading edge of new nuclear in Europe.

Engineering insights

We employ over 15000 people in the UK and have a very diverse, multidisciplinary workforce. As we both produce AND supply energy, unlike other energy suppliers we are able to provide more varied opportunities for professionals interested in ‘central functions’. This video shows three of our employees sharing their experiences in their day to day roles, their professional development and a career they can feel good about.

Bridgewater House in Bristol is the home of the Delivery Command Centre  and provides a base for a large part of our Hinkley Point C project team.

Having a dedicated project building will provide a focal point for all the delivery teams and allow us to operate as one team as we interact with the Engineering Command Centre in France and Site Command Centre at Hinkley Point C.

You might also be based at Hinkley Point C where we are building two UK-EPR Reactors over the next decade, Sizewell C – the building and commercial launch of two UK-EPR reactors in Suffolk or at The Qube in London where support staff for Sizewell C are housed.
