About us

Our goal in life is to bring affordable, low-carbon energy to everyone. Easy to say; definitely not easy to achieve. In fact, it takes all of the effort and ingenuity we can muster. Rest assured, there’s plenty of both here at one of the UK’s largest energy companies (and a major part of one of Europe’s biggest energy groups).

It’s certainly paying off, all that energy, enthusiasm and expertise. Today, we’re the country’s top producer of not just electricity but low-carbon electricity. But there are even bigger challenges ahead. And we need even sharper minds and smarter ideas to solve them. Could you help us shape the UK’s energy future?

Climate change. Increased demand. Rising prices. Energy security. These are the big issues facing today’s energy sector. Fortunately, we’re happy thinking big. Which is why we’ve set our sights on a total transformation of the UK energy landscape.

It’s a major challenge – maybe the biggest of our lifetime. It’s definitely the most exciting. Our vision is a truly modern energy mix combining affordability, efficiency, security and sustainability. At the heart of it is the most affordable large-scale low-carbon source available in the UK today – nuclear.

Sustainability

In 2007, we committed to reducing CO2 emissions from energy production by 60% before 2020. We will now go way beyond that figure. That shows the scale of our sustainability commitments. And we don’t intend to ease up now.

We recently launched one of the biggest environmental and social programmes of any UK energy company. It combines measures to cut carbon, reduce waste, help vulnerable customers, support local communities, champion sustainability and promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) learning. Together, we believe these initiatives show our deep-seated commitment to acting responsibly in all we do and are proud of the awards they’ve won.
